ALADS is proud to offer two opportunities to attend a four-hour Use of Force Update and Reporting training at ALADS in Monterey Park. All members are invited to attend either the morning or afternoon session FREE of Charge. The class will be taught by attorney David Demurjian, who is experienced in defending use of force allegation cases and who trains law enforcement officers executives throughout California. He is also a reserve deputy sheriff. This class will focus on use of force issues in general, case law decisions relating to use of force incidents and reporting requirements unique to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Attendees will leave the class with a better understanding of how uses of force pertain to their daily duties, have a keener understanding of LASD use of force policies, as well as be better prepared when reporting and documenting force incidents.

Throughout the media, the hottest topic to splash across the news is use of force by the police. Whether it is a fatal police encounter in New York or a protestor being taken into custody in Los Angeles, it will most likely be on the front page of every paper and will have a million hits on the internet by the end of the day. How well versed are you on the present case law regarding use of force and the LASD force policy? Do you understand the do's and don'ts when it comes to force encounters? If not, then you need to attend this training and begin to understand how the laws and policies relating to force could affect your job in today's environment! This is a must attend class. If you don't think you could be involved in a high profile use of force case, ask yourself; had you or anyone you know ever heard of Ferguson, Missouri five years ago?

Instructor: David Demurjian has a twenty-eight year history of advising, defending and trying "use of force" cases on behalf of law enforcement personnel throughout the country.  As a former criminal prosecutor in New York, Boston and California, he has handled numerous felony cases involving attacks upon police officers cases.  As an expert in police use of force, he has tried and consulted on all types of use of force cases in both state and federal courts. Aside from his legal experience, he is also an instructor on defensive tactics for police officers and military personnel.  As a defensive tactics instructor, he holds a third degree black belt in jujitsu.  For the past seventeen years, he has been a member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.  Presently, he is assigned to the Force Training Unit.   In his free time, he is a captain assigned to the Judge Advocate General's Corp (Reserve).  He is a graduate of New York University and Fordham University School of Law and is a member of the California, New York, and Massachusetts State Bars.

Seating is limited. Call ALADS at (323) 213-4005 to make your reservation.
