The Florida Tour was a Success
|
Thank you to all alumni and friends for joining us.
|
The alumni team has
done quite a bit of traveling over the past few weeks to m
eet with alumni and friends of Indiana State University. Visiting with alumni is the most rewarding part of our jobs! In January, we made a visit to the state of Florida. With more than 5,000 alumni in the state, this trip is always enjoyable and something we always look forward to hosting. These events wouldn't be successful without our generous hosts and hostesses. The Alumni Association staff would like to extend our appreciation to Bev Spear, Jerry and Betty Quick, Norm and Linda Pellegrini, Nancee Sorenson and John Kackley, Jay McHargue, and Roger and Glenda Schorr. This group of Indiana State supporters graciously hosted events throughout the state of Florida. The alumni team, along with President Dan Bradley and First Lady Cheri, enjoyed spending time with alumni and friends in Pensacola, Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota and Naples. We are starting to plan our Florida trip for January 2017. If you would like to host an alumni gathering in Florida next January, please contact Rex Kendall at 812.514.8400 or rkendall@indstatefoundation.org.

A new series about the Alumni Association's travel experiences
|
With all of the traveling the Alumni Association has been doing, we thought it'd be fun to include an interesting attraction or restaurant we've visited while we've been on the road. This past weekend, we visited alumni and friends in Chicago as the Men's Basketball team played Loyola. The double overtime game was exciting and so was the food! We can't visit Chicago without having pizza so this month's highlight goes to Pizano's
Pizz
a. There are so many delicious restaurants in Chicago, but we had to stop here when one of our current Indiana State students, and student worker at the Foundation, recommended this place. Not only was the food good, but they also had a photo of Larry Bird hanging on the wall. This was definitely a Sycamore stop we couldn't miss out on!
Where will the alumni team travel next? Follow us on our social media sites to find out! Also, if you have a favorite restaurant you would like the Alumni Team to visit, send us an email or post the name and location on one of our Social Media Sites:

Mari A. Swayne, '95, GR '98
|
Mari A. Swayne seemed destined to become an educator. As a youngster, she had her own chalkboard and "classroom" at home. The daughter of a teacher, Swayne used to tag along when her mother went to work, and she realized what a difference a dedicated teacher can make.
"I saw her change the lives of many students, and I wanted to help students also," Swayne said.
When it came time to attend college, Swayne also went with family tradition and chose Indiana State. Born in Indianapolis, Swayne said she was familiar with the university, that it was close to home and that she knew her family valued the educations they had received there.

Arch Madness and MVC Women's Basketball Tournament |
The Men's and Women's Basketball tournaments are coming up! We hope to see you at both tournaments this year - Arch Madness (March 3-6) and Hoops in the Heartland (March 10-13).
The Alumni Association will host pregame events surrounding both tournaments. For Arch Madness (Men's Basketball tournament), the pregame event will take place at the Hilton St. Louis Downtown, the official team hotel. For the Hoops in the Heartland (new Women's Basketball tournament location this year), we'll host a pregame event at the Barrel House, the official pregame headquarters for Sycamore alumni and fans.
A limited number of all-session tickets within the Indiana State seat block are still available and may now be purchased through the Hulman Center Ticket Office at 1-877-ISU-TIXS and during halftime of all basketball home games. Regular office hours for the Hulman Center Ticket Office are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All-session tickets for Arch Madness are available for $155 each, and the Indiana State seat block is located in the lower rows of sections 112, 113, and 115 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. All-session tickets for Hoops in the Heartland are available for $60 each. The tournament games will take place the iWireless Center in Moline, Ill.
Please check your mailboxes for an email regarding more information about pregame events and times. #GoState
