Lent
The church season of Lent, the 40 days (minus Sundays) preceding Easter, is the perfect time to slow down, open your eyes, and see God working God's wonders in you and all around you. There will be a number of ministries going on at Emmanuel Church to support you in this time of reflection.
First, pick up a copy of
Living Well through Lent 2016, edited by Scott Stoner. This devotional booklet provides short daily meditations under the theme
Letting Go with All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind. Fellow parishioners have used these meditations before and rave about them. They are provided to us free from the Diocese. Copies are available at both entrances to our worship space.
On the five Wednesdays in Lent beginning February 17, Pastor Susan will be leading Soup, Sandwiches, and Scripture from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in Beaudway Hall. Come at 6:30 pm for soup and sandwiches. Thanks to Penny Longo, Jean Owen, Ellen Busch and Lisa Enright for providing food for us. At 7 pm, choir members may head up to the choir room for practice. Or stay with Pastor Susan for study of the gospel of Luke. Luke is the primary gospel that you will hear throughout the coming year on Sunday mornings. For a half hour on these Wednesday evenings, we will look at some of the unique stories of Luke, the choreography of Luke, the passion story according to Luke, and more. One evening will be devoted to a creative expression of our understanding of Luke, another to a
lectio divina based on a text from Luke.
As you are able, be part of these activities during Lent, enriching and deepening your faith.

Soup, Sandwiches, and Scripture
We begin our Lenten series next Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 pm in Beaudway Hall. Penny Longo will be preparing delicious ham and bean soup and accompanying sandwiches. At 7 pm, choir members will head upstairs to sing and the rest of us will take a look at what makes the gospel of Luke unique.
Luke is the gospel from which we will hear most of our Sunday morning lessons over the course of this coming year. Join with Pastor Susan and your Emmanuel Church community for food and conversation.
See you there!

Sunday Service Project, February 28
Between worship services on February 28, we will be putting together baggies of toiletries for those in need. Please bring in small, travel sizes of soap, shampoo, lotion, and toothpaste, and place them in the baskets at the entryways. Perfect are all those complimentary toiletries that you have picked up and brought home from vacation stays. On the 28th, we will be packaging them with greeting cards decorated by our children. We will share these with the Quinn Center and other agencies.
Come join the fun!

Internationally Acclaimed Christ Church Cathedral Choristers seek Lodging Here
As one of only two sites on their spring tour, the Christ Church Cathedral Choristers will be as excited to perform at Emmanuel as we will be to host them. Part of our association with this special visit is the opportunity to host this esteemed group in our homes during their Chicago stay. The 24 young men who sing, ages 9-18, are accompanied by several support staff including organist, conductor, chaperones and others. We'll put them all up in 22 rooms around our community and hope that you can open your doors to be a host.
Boys must be assigned to hosts in pairs, and hosts for boys are required to take
Keeping God's Children Safe (really easy online, and if you've already taken, you're good). Hosts will be asked to provide breakfast and a ride to Emmanuel in the morning. Dates are Sunday April 3 through Wednesday April 6 (3 nights).
If you'd like to take part in this great experience please contact George at (312) 835-2526 or
[email protected]. There is also a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board by the sacristy.
