Circle of Unity

Join us as we celebrate and honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with performances by Joe Reilly and Julie Beutel, the Michigan Gospel Chorale, U-M Slam Poetry, and the Neutral Zone - Ann Arbor's Teen Center. The event is presented by MCSP and co-sponsored by CASC.

Grief and the Healing Process: A Panel Discussion from Personal Experience

The panel will feature formerly incarcerated individuals grieving over the crimes they committed and individuals who have lost family members to violent crimes. The panelists will share views on grief and then lead a discussion on this difficult, painful, and complicated subject. The event is presented by PCAP and co-sponsored by CASC.

Jewish Communal Leadership Program Open House

The Jewish Communal Leadership Program (JCLP) at the University of Michigan invites students to an open house. Drop in for light snacks and learn about the program and upcoming application deadlines. All admitted students receive substantial scholarships. Earn your Masters in Social Work and a Certificate in Jewish Communal Leadership in five semesters (no GRE required!).

The Center for the Education of Women Celebrates 50 Years

The Center for the Education of Women opened nearly fifty years ago as a new unit dedicated to assisting women in continuing their education and investigating career possibilities. CEW's 50th anniversary will kick off with a free program of specially selected short films by and about women, along with birthday festivities. Oscar winning film director Cynthia Wade will discuss her documentary, "Mondays at Racine." Register here. Check out future events here.

The Urban Planning MLK Symposium: "Can Urban Planning Build Agency in Marginalized Communities?"
The event will feature a speaker's panel of community activist and planners including Charles Anderson, President of the Urban League of Detroit, Khalila Gatson, Deputy Director of Vanguard Community Development Corporation, Khalil Ligon, Project Manager of Lower Eastside Action Plan, Joe Heaphy, VP of Real Estate & Development for Neighborhood Service Organization, and a spoken word performance by Detroit poet and activist Jessica Care Moore.

South Asian Awareness Network Hosts Panorama: Capturing Change Through the Lens of Culture
This year's conference includes speaker workshops, keynotes, four full meals, entertainment Friday night and a formal Saturday night. Every year, SAAN works extremely hard to put on a conference capturing social justice issues that are relevant to each individual, our campus, and the globe. There are some truly amazing speakers this year talking about everything from socioeconomic disparities and environmental justice to women's rights and education. SAPAC Volunteer Training

The SAPAC Volunteer Training program is an intensive 30-hour training that provides in-depth information on issues related to sexual and intimate partner violence. Volunteer Training is a requirement if you are interested in volunteering with the Men's Activism ProgramNetworking, Publicity, and Activism Program, or Peer Education Program. Training runs from January 28-February 9. Scholarship Opportunity

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarships meant to assist students who aim to reduce tobacco use among certain priority populations set by the American Legacy Foundation. Learn more here. Application deadline is April 30, 2014.

 

Davis-Putter Scholarship

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. Learn more or apply hereApplication deadline is March 31, 2014.   

 

Call for Proposals: Davis Projects for Peace

The Ginsberg Center for Community Service is calling for proposals for summer-long projects designed and implemented by undergraduate students passionate about peace in their communities and around the globe. 2014-2015 Overseas Exchange with University of Cape Town in South Africa 

Michigan Branch Telluride Association (MBTA) is pleased to announce an informational meeting regarding the 2014-2015 Overseas Exchange with University of Cape Town in South Africa. This is a fully funded opportunity that sends a UM student to UCT for the fall term (July - November, 2014.) Ben Rogers, currently a member at MBTA and our 2013-14 Exchange Scholar, will be available to talk about the exchange, his experiences as a Scholar, and to answer questions from potential applicants. The National Institute on Drug Abuse Summer Research Program

Under this program, students underrepresented in the biomedical, social, clinical and behavioral sciences are paired with NIDA funded scientists at research institutions across the United States for 8-10 weeks during the summer to work in the field of substance abuse and addiction research.  Students receive a stipend, and if necessary and eligible, provisions for travel and housing expenses. The Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program

The Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program is a social justice program that trains, inspires, and sustains leaders.
