CASC Community Dialogue 

Interested in learning more about dialogue? Want to explore your social identities? Join the CASC community for a student-sponsored dialogue on power, privilege, and social identity. Together we'll explore how our social identities impact the classroom and our work in the community. We'll also practice better communication skills for speaking across conflict. Dinner provided!

Diversity Monologues

LSA Honors is hosting the Diversity Monologues, a series of performance-based events to share and celebrate identities. The Diversity Monologues will offer students a chance to look at race and how unique experiences create an overall idea of what race means to society, campus, and ourselves. Detroit Community Based Research Program

Want the opportunity to live and work in the city of Detroit? The Detroit Community Based Research Program offers students an opportunity to work 35 hrs a week for 10 weeks in Detroit over the summer. Learn more here. Apply hereApplication due February 14.

Semester in Detroit 
Spend the summer in Detroit! Semester in Detroit transforms U-M students through reciprocal relationships with the people, organizations, and neighborhoods of Detroit. By livinglearning, and working in the city, our students engage with community leaders in transformative work - strengthening themselves as well as the wider region. Welfare Simulation
Explore what it means to live in the "State of Poverty" by participating in the Welfare Simulation, a 3-hour experiential learning workshop. Participants will experience specific realistic challenges based on their assigned roles as low-income people of various backgrounds and family structures. Register here

Speak Out
The United Coalition for Racial Justice (UCRJ) invites CASC students to their event, "Speak Out," to protest low enrollment of underrepresented minorities and a poor racial climate for students of color at U-M. Learn more here.

Ann Arbor SOUP gives microgrants to creative projects in the Ann Arbor Community and is hosting its next event on February 23! Anyone or any organization looking for microgrant money is encouraged to apply. Learn more or apply here

U-M Flint Social Work Course Seeks Ann Arbor Students
SWR 389, a pilot-course at U-M Flint, offers a faculty-led global experience that includes face-to-face course instruction in Xi-an, China. The project base course is intended to engage students in inter-cultural exchange and interdisciplinary learning. Contact Professor Diane Fuselier-Thompson with questions or if interested.

International Institute Individual Fellowships

The International Institute is offering individual fellowships to students who, regardless of citizenship, are enrolled in a dual degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research outside the US. Award amounts are up to $5,000. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students are eligible. Learn more and apply here.

The Community and Social Change Masters Program

The Community and Social Change Masters Program, offered by the University of Miami, is accepting applications for Fall 2014. C&SC aims to prepare globally aware leaders, researchers, and agents of change who create, inspire, and engage community organizations to foster well-being in diverse community settings. The Urban Teacher Center

The Urban Teacher Center offers a 15-month teacher training through a residency. Teachers receive three year's of one-on-one coaching and a full scholarship for two master's degrees. Learn more and apply here. Next application deadline is February 15.

 

The Federal Judicial Center Seeks Intern

CapCorps Midwest

Cap Corps volunteers work full time with a non-profit in one of these areas: immigration, food justice, poverty, literacy, education, community development and more. Cap Corps volunteers live with other people interested in building intentional, social justice and faith-focused communities and are given room, board, health insurance, transportation, and a small stipend during their 12-30 month commitments. To learn more, click here. The Fund for the Public Interest
