On June 16, vandals desecrated a Holocaust monument in Nikopol, Ukraine (in the Dnipropetrovsk region) with swastikas.

NCSEJ spoke with the head of the Nikopol Jewish community Alexander Taratuta, who reported that the Nikopol Holocaust monument was desecrated again last night.
 
The local Jewish community has filed a complaint with the police. At this time, the perpetrators have not been identified.
 
Taratuta also reported other recent instances of vandalism, as well as swastikas and other Nazi graffiti in Nikopol. He believes that perpetrators belong to a local neo-Nazi group.
 
NCSEJ contacted Jewish community leadership in the Dnipropetrovsk region, who reported another recent Holocaust memorial desecration, in the town of Novomoskovsk. According to community representatives, because of the remote location of the desecrated memorials, there was no video surveillance of the area.

NCSEJ also contacted the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States. In conversation with Charg? d'affaires Yaroslav Brisiuck, NCSEJ asked the embassy to urge authorities to investigate the desecrations, and take appropriate measures to secure Jewish sites.

Mr. Brisiuck strongly condemned this act of vandalism and desecration of the memory of the Holocaust, saying that "there is absolutely zero tolerance for anti-Semitism and hate crimes in Ukraine and fascism and Nazism have no place in the country." He added that "criminal investigation is underway, and the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice."
