CSA Report 2015
Thank you for being part of our 2015 season! It was truly a great year! As always, we were able to provide favorite standbys like tomatoes, carrots, peppers, and onions, while introducing new CSA members to less common crops like kohlrabi, bok choi, salad turnips, and celeriac. We also tried a few new crops this year: Daikon radish, Chinese stem broccoli, and Chinese red long radishes. We also expanded our Pick-Your-Own (PYO) offerings with the addition of the perennial herb garden. We hope to continue this pattern next year, offering a steady supply of standard crops while continuing to add new, fun vegetables and herbs to try. Plans include adding more herbs, such as mint, and to do our best while working with the weather to provide a steady supply of your favorite crops!

We always aim for the retail value to be at least 20% higher than the cost of the share. When calculating CSA prices, all vegetables are valued at a 20% discount off Farmstand prices. For example, one week's full share is worth at minimum $34; that produce would cost $42.50 at the Farmstand. This is in thanks for your commitment to supporting us for the entire season.
Season Summary
This year provided more value for the same share cost for all share types, with increased amounts of many standard crops and the addition of the perennial herb garden. Last year was cool and somewhat dry, while this summer was hot and extremely dry. Many crops, such as peppers and tomatoes, responded well to this dry heat, but significant labor was needed for irrigation. Other crops, such as many of our direct seeded roots and greens, never flourished in such dry weather. A sudden hail storm mid-season destroyed or set back several crops, and growing cauliflower and broccoli for the CSA remains a challenge. However, better management of pests and weeds ensured a more regular supply of crops like eggplants and carrots when compared to last year. Please see the attached document for more detailed information on how this year's CSA did!
