Hosanna E-Update

February 2, 2016
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.
From Pastor Linda

For it was you who formed my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
~Psalm 139
Dear Friends~

On Sunday Melissa Schlemmer helped me preach on
I am the resurrection and the life (John 11)- speaking about our present-tense God and perspective; on how we have each been called out by name to LIVE. She spoke about her son, Christopher and their LIFE- and how Christopher has taught her to choose joy and not take anything for granted. Melissa also blogs at www.specialmom.com- here is a excerpt from one post about Christopher:

Normal. He's not normal, he's not typical. He's uncommon. He is anything but normal and you know what? He's beautiful and rare. He is also most definitely not a  "problem." He is my son who is the most courageous and determined child you will ever confront. He is joyful. He has touched countless people and has the most memorable smile that will leave an imprint on your heart. So, problem? Absolutely not...
My son is not normal and he is not a problem. Our life is challenging and difficult at times, but without struggle how will one ever grow? I am entitled to bad days and so are you. I just said it out loud. Without hardship how will one ever learn to appreciate true beauty and blessing? I have learned more from my son in the last two years than my first 30. He is teaching people all around us the meaning of love, perseverance, and strength.

Many of you have asked me about my Super Hero Cape- and how you can have one made for you or a Super Hero in your life. You can email Melissa directly at [email protected] .
There is more information about how to help below under Christopher's Crusade Fundraiser.

Christopher's Crusade Fundraiser
Christopher, son of Melissa & Ryan Schlemmer from our Hosanna family is an amazing little boy with PMM2 Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation. Nearly every body system is affected by this genetic condition. Christopher attends weekly therapy sessions of physical, occupational, and speech therapy as repetition is extremely important for him to strengthen his weak muscles and learn how to do many things. He is heading to California in April for intensive therapy; 4 hours of therapy per day for 4 weeks straight. The costs of this trip are enormous as insurance does not cover all of the therapy and mounting travel costs. Christopher will also be bringing Super Hero Capes to other little heroes at the therapy center! Christopher's fundraising site is below. Please share and give if you feel compelled! Our family is extremely grateful for all of your constant love and support.

to give to a child in your honor.

Reception for Rev. Lamont Koerner
The Rev. Lamont Koerner (former interim pastor at Hosanna) began service as the Assistant to the Bishop for Vital Congregations, Vital Partnerships in October 2014. He will be leaving the synod staff at the end of February. During his time as Assistant to the Bishop he has guided congregations through nearly two dozen call processes, led the synod's work with interim pastors, helped congregations with tools for stewardship and conflict resolution, and been the liaison to Lutheran Advocacy - Minnesota and to our work with Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala.

An Open House to thank Lamont for his leadership with the synod will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 11:00 am in the Commons at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill (next door to the synod office). Green Tip from the Green Earth Team (GET)

SRC is Hosanna's recycler and now accepts  plastic containers marked with numbers 1-7. Rinse clean and flatten when possible, before depositing in the blue recycle bin in the kitchen. Please do not include plastic shopping bags as they clog recycling equipment. The Green Earth Team encourages recycling of paper, plastic, metal, glass, milk cartons and juice boxes at Hosanna and in our homes!
