The New School Year's Started - We Need Sponsors!
The beginning of the school year is always exciting for us as we welcome new students into our Child Sponsorship Program. Currently we have children that are in need of sponsors. The sponsorship commitment is $30.00 a month which includes school uniforms, shoes, school supplies, backpacks, medical & dental attention and family support. If interested in sponsoring a child, email: [email protected].
Local Charities Participate In HIM's Festival Of Trees
This year the following organizations participated in our Festival Of Trees: Highland Kiwanis, Cancer Resource Center, NWI Chinchilla Rescue, Down Syndrome Association of NWI, Humane Society Calumet Area, Lake County Public Library, Highland Women's Club, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Multicultural Wellness Network. These organizations decorate their own trees with ornaments that can be sold to help support their programs.
Christmas Carols Filled The Air In Our Resale Shoppe
On December 4, we were so excited to welcome back the Munster High School Choir this year to our Resale Shoppe to sing Carols. Their beautiful voices filled the air providing our customers a very festive atmosphere in which to shop.
On December 19, Westminster Presbyterian Church's Children's Choir from Munster, IN performed for us at our Resale Shoppe. The spirit of the season rang throughout the store as they joyfully sang Christmas Carols for us.
HIM Collect Toys For The Underprivileged
Hearts In Motion partnered with The Carpenter's House Church to collect many boxes of toys for the boys and girls of the Humboldt Park area in Chicago. The Carpenter's House distributed the toys to the children putting smiles on many little faces this Christmas!
HIM Helps Fire Victims
This past November, a fire broke out in a Senior Housing Center in Gary, IN. Many of the Seniors' homes were damaged by the the fire, smoke and water. Hearts In Motion was notified to see if we could be of any assistance.
We instantly accepted the challenge and began to collect clothing, shoes, household items and toiletries to be distributed to the victims. Thanks to our Resale Shoppe, we were able to find many of the items that they were needing.
On December 2, the HIM Staff along with many volunteers loaded up the Resale Shoppe box truck full of all of these items and set off to see what we could do. We were surprised to see the great need and knew we would be back.
On December 9, the HIM Staff and Volunteers made another trip to help the Seniors put their homes back together. This time we brought them a pot luck lunch and sang Christmas Carols. We plan on going back again in January to pick up where we left off helping them organize and once again bring them a warm lunch.
