Greeting people before davening
Once the time for
Shacharis has arrived, it is forbidden to go out of one's way to greet people, even parents or teachers. It is forbidden to go to someone's house or place in shul and greet him with
shalom or 'good morning.' It is questionable if calling a greeting on the phone is considered 'going to greet.' It is permissible to go ahead and greet someone if you must pass the area where he lives for other reasons, but you cannot use the word
Shalom -- Hashem's name -- to greet people before greeting Hashem.

Basic halacha permits greeting people that one meets in passing [without seeking them out] with the word
Shalom. It is customary, however, to alter common greetings to less common ones as a reminder that one has not
davened yet and should not get involved with other matters. Before
davening, it is forbidden to bow to people in greeting. If one has already recited some of the
birchos hashachar, he may bow in greeting or bless those he passes with
Shalom. It is always permissible to respond to someone else's greeting, wish
mazal tov before
Shacharis and greet anybody with any blessing before
Mincha and
Ma'ariv.

Davening Shemoneh Esrei
after the zman
Shacharis may be recited until a third of the day has passed. According to most
poskim, someone who has not
davened before that time -- whether by choice, mistake or
ones -- should
daven until noon. There are
poskim who do not permit
davening this late, however. As such, on weekdays, when voluntary
tefillos are permitted, he should stipulate (before beginning) that if this prayer is not mandatory, he wishes it to serve as a voluntary
tefilla. It is forbidden to
daven
Shacharis in the time between noon and
mincha gedolah, but if someone did
daven at that time, he has fulfilled his obligation.

- There are four stages to morning: 1) alos, 2) the time when the whole horizon lights up, 3) misheyakir, and 4) sunrise.
- Daytime mitzvos can be performed only after the whole horizon lights up. There is an opinion that they can be performed at dawn-when the first light starts to emerge-but the halacha does not follow that opinion, and mitzvos performed then must be repeated after the horizon lights up.
- The ideal time for ShacharisShemoneh Esrei is precisely at sunrise, but it may be recited until a third of the day has passed.
