Many of you are already familiar with Kinesia Pilates. Christl Marcontell opened her original space in Pioneer Square in 2004 and just moved into the Nord Building at 314 1st Ave S. Kinesia is all about head-to-toe general fitness and agility training for improved athletic performance. In addition to offering "Pilates training to help you do what you want to do everyday", the new studio includes a retail storefront with quality activewear. Feeling good and looking good - what a lovely addition to the neighborhood! We're delighted Christl is part of the Pioneer Square story.

Mark your calendar! This Thursday is the first Thursday of February which means Art Walk is this week! Invite your friends out for an evening of great art viewing in the historic Pioneer Square. The neighborhood offers FREE PARKING, 5:00pm-10:00pm at participating garages #1TParkFree. How we Art Walk
1. Walk, ride the new streetcar, bus, bike, or drive & park for free here in the neighborhood this Thursday, 2/4 at 5:00pm.
2. Taste your way around the Pioneer Square happy hours.
3. Walk off those nibble and sips while admiring the creative works of art displayed throughout the galleries & venues.

Waterfront Seattle: Creating a Waterfront for All

Join the folks at Milepost 31 at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, as Marshall Foster, Director of the City of Seattle's Office of the Waterfront, and Heidi Hughes, Executive Director of Friends of Waterfront Seattle, give a special guest presentation about Waterfront Seattle. Waterfront Seattle is a multi-year program to rebuild Seattle's waterfront following the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The program spans the waterfront from Pioneer Square to Belltown and includes a rebuilt Elliott Bay Seawall, a new surface street providing access to and from downtown, and new parks, paths, and access to Elliott Bay.

Bike Racks on the Horizon

The Alliance for Pioneer Square is working closely with designers, Seattle City departments, the Pioneer Square Preservation Board, and fabricators to develop bicycle racks that reflect the character of Pioneer Square. Through research with all of these groups, a set of design goals and direction for this new bicycle rack design have been explored. We would love to hear your thoughts on the direction we're headed with design, and we would love to know where you would like to see more bicycle racks in the neighborhood. ADA Improvements Continue
|
We're happy to report on two new curb ramps on Yesler Way between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, right outside the Pioneer Square Link station entrance. For the longest time, there has been a mid-block crosswalk at this location, with no accessible way to get across for people with disabilities. What's even more exciting is that these curb ramps were installed with cast iron truncated domes (those pads with all the little bumps before you enter the street). The cast iron meets ADA requirements and fits in with the look and feel of Pioneer Square. This work was requested by the Alliance for Pioneer Square and funded by the Seattle Department of Transportation's Neighborhood Street Fund (which funds community requested transportation projects). Additional funding for the curb ramp design came from a federal grant which is funding more curb ramps for 2017 construction.

Help neighborhood visitors and your customers find low-rate parking by spreading the word about
The Alliance for Pioneer Square is partnering with WSDOT, the City of Seattle, Downtown Seattle Association and nearby parking garages to offer parking spaces for just $3/hour, up to four hours. A great option over circling for parking or feeding the meter.

Find It, Fix It" is a smartphone app offering mobile users one more way to report selected issues to the City of Seattle. Reporting an issue is as easy as snapping a photo with your smartphone, adding detailed information, and hitting submit.
