CAWA Sponsors a Battery Core Deposit Bill in Arizona - Watching Out for You

HR 2132 has been introduced in the Arizona legislature and received its first vote: The House Committee on Commerce voted 8 to 0 for passage, in its first legislative test. The intent of the bill is to assure distributors and retailers are not financially hurt in the commerce of batteries. For more details, contact CAWA's Arizona based legislative advocate, Stuart Goodman at [email protected] or 602.277.0911. Another member benefit.

CAWA and Auto Care Association to Sponsor Magnusson-Moss Notification Bill in California

To assure the motoring public understands that the use of parts and services from other than the car dealer will NOT void (in and of itself) the manufactures' warranty, CAWA and the Auto Care Association are sponsoring a bill in the California legislature that would require notice to the car buyer at the point of sale regarding this issue. For more information, contact CAWA's California based legislative advocate, Gary Conover at [email protected] or 916.233.9655. Another member benefit.

Chemical Labeling Bill Fails in California

The California State Assembly voted on Assembly Bill 708 ( A.B. 708), which is legislation requiring consumer products to list all ingredients contained in the item for sale. The bill was voted down, after only 33 out of 80 members voted in favor. The defeat of A.B. 708 is a major victory for the industry in a state with some of the most aggressive product labeling laws in the country. Both CAWA and the Auto Care Association, along with a coalition of other businesses, lobbied members of the California Assembly to vote "no" on A.B. 708. The coalition had expressed strong concerns about possible exposure of trade secrets, the high compliance costs and issues that the labeling requirements would create for product packaging.
