Happy New Year and welcome to the Year of the Fire Monkey! And what a year it should be... adding Fire to the Monkey's mischievous nature. Remember playfulness can wear thin, so be careful with the extent of your pranks... lest you be turned to stone!

To help you manage this busy, playful year, we will continue to add to our teaching schedule. Our latest addition is Tamara Rothman. She joins our Dance/Performance Series to teach
Stage Presence/Performance Skills, Mondays, 7-8:30pm. Your first class is free... so take the opportunity to check it out.  Enroll here

Our first Movie Nite was great! We camped out on the floor with blankets and pillows and snacked on organic popcorn and chips to enjoy the antics of Jackie Chan and Jet Li in Forbidden Kingdom. Come hang with us for the House of the Flying Daggers on February 26 (4th Friday of the month). Movie Nite is free but space is limited so better if you enroll online.  Sign up now

Changing Seasons with LaoShih Holly
Willow Blooms in January
January was full of new activity at Jade Lady Meditation. Spring/Wood energy was in the air and the pussy-willow fence was blooming. We revised our class schedule to bring you more scheduling options, adding a Beginners Tai Chi and Qigong class, plus a Free Sunday Meditation class with DaoShima. Make sure to check out the link to the schedule.

Our first 'Movie Nite' featuring Jackie Chan and Jet Li in The Forbbiden Kingdom was so much fun and will be a regular 4th Friday event. February's movie, the House of Flying Daggers, is a must see visual experience that will look and sound spectacular on our big screen. Feel free to email your movie suggestions to [email protected]

In addition to new class offerings, our talented practitioners are offering Spring workshops, channeling the energy of the changing seasons, as they teach you how to breathe through meditation, Qigong and dance.

Fire Posture
In late January, I held the first of my three part series workshops on Shamanic 5 Element Qigong from the Mt. Emei tradition. I am certified to teach this form  by Master Zhongxian Wu who is the 8th generation lineage holder. The form is comprised of five gentle movements designed to strengthen the body, calm the spirit and harmonize the 5 Elements/ Organs, promoting inner harmony and balance.

This is the first Shamanic Qigong form I learned and it holds a special place in my heart. The beauty and simplicity of the movements coupled with its deep energetic Qi connection draws me to share this ancient practice.

I've designed each workshop as a stand-alone session; focusing on a mix of lecture, movement and application. The lecture segments focus on introduction to Five Element Theory and the Shamanic opening and closing practices specific to this lineage. The physical practice delves deeper into the movements associated with the elements of Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth and Qigong applications promote individual health and healing. In January, I introduced the elements of Fire and Water and we explored the importance of Yin cultivation during the last month of Winter as we gather and regenerate the essential energy necessary to fuel the activity of the Spring/Wood season.

I'm looking forward to the next two workshops scheduled for February 27th and March 26th. It's not too late to sign up to attend as the material presented is supported by weekly classes. I encourage you to embrace change (see link to my previous article on Cultivating Change in the Sept 2015 issue) and to take the first steps toward health and healing.
