And Grace Will Lead Me Home
The Story of Two Sons and Their Father
Then Jesus said, "There was a man who had two sons..."
Dear Friends~
I have come to appreciate the Season of Lent as a gift
. The journey begins on Ash Wednesday (yep, that's tomorrow!). I have come to expect surprises and insights during this time- being open to God's Word and work in my life and the world. For me, there seems to be a sense of heightened awareness during this season of the church year. I have come to appreciate that we do this as a community, remembering that we are not alone. Lent is a time to hold each other accountable and to encourage one another in faith. It is a time to commit to a shared struggle and a shared path.
On Wednesdays during Lent, we will be focused on the story of two sons and their father- often referred to as the Prodigal Son- from Luke 15. This week- on Ash Wednesday- we will take a high level look at this story and introduce the main characters. Then these characters will come alive each week and join us as we lean in and hear their story with new ears! You will not want to miss a week!
On Ash Wednesday, we will take some time of deep confession, asking for God's mercy and grace as we consider the many ways that we fall short. We will come forward and receive the Imposition of Ashes upon our foreheads in the shape of a cross as we hear the words of mortality that, "Remember, from dust you were made and to dust you shall return." At the end of the service we will receive the Sacrament of Forgiveness as we are invited to the Table- the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given for us- grace, amazing grace!
Invite a friend to take this journey with you. There are two opportunities for worship on Wednesdays during Lent; one at 12noon followed by lunch or a meal served from 5-5:45pm with worship following at 6pm.
See you in church
~

Reception for Rev. Lamont Koerner
|
|
The Rev. Lamont Koerner (former interim pastor at Hosanna) began service as the Assistant to the Bishop for Vital Congregations, Vital Partnerships in October 2014. He will be leaving the synod staff at the end of February. During his time as Assistant to the Bishop he has guided congregations through nearly two dozen call processes, led the synod's work with interim pastors, helped congregations with tools for stewardship and conflict resolution, and been the liaison to Lutheran Advocacy - Minnesota and to our work with Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala.
An Open House to thank Lamont for his leadership with the synod will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 11:00 am in the Commons at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill (next door to the synod office). Please join us in the festivities as we say thank you to Lamont for his service with the synod.
