Do you remember the first week of February in 2014? We had a foot of snow over 4 days. We don't normally get snow like that and other than the ice storm in early January; winter 2016 is turning out to be relatively mild but WET.
MILD WINTER
The good news is that the drought is subsiding and summer water for the entire state looks good. Good snow-pack everywhere.
We are busier than most people think during the winter, preparing for the coming spring. All shrub beds get thoroughly cleaned from fall leaf debris and winter storms. All plants get pruned with some getting cut back significantly as this is how they are best maintained. We groom the barkdust mulch and prepare for our Pre-emergence application to reduce weed growth in the spring. We resist mowing until as late as possible while the work in the shrub beds takes precedence. As spring is nearing, we are diligently preparing beautiful and healthy landscapes and planting shrub beds for this coming spring and summer season.
Mowing Delayed Until Weather Dries Out As shown above, we are not considering mowing until the weather dries out as the saturated soil condition can lead to mower damage if mowed now. We have plenty to keep us busy preparing the shrub beds for spring anyway. We will begin mowing toward the end of the month and focus on taking advantage of any dry weather coming up to avoid damage.
