Hello Teams Past and Present,
We hope everyone enjoyed their Superbowl festivities. We had hoped to have better news, but after exploring the current ice conditions, the forecast for the week ahead, and a lengthy conversation with the Fire Chief, we have made the decision to cancel the 2016 MPHC.

Many of you will look at the forecast for this weekend and see highs in the teens and single digit lows and think we should be alright. Well, unfortunately, the past 10 days have had too dramatic an effect on the conditions to risk the safety of our volunteers, players and spectators. We need a minimum of 8 solid inches of ice to hold the event you've come to expect. The clear solid ice at 8" will support the weight of a vehicle but the milky white "snow cone" ice can be often times only half as strong. We don't have enough time or consistent temps to recover beyond the 8" necessary to support the light towers, equipment, players and spectators. We will NOT risk the lives of ANYONE in our hockey community by trying to force the event against the will of Mother Nature.

To reference our refund policy, if you are registered to play in the 2016 MPHC, you have two options:

You can request a refund of $400 (80%) of your registration fee

You can request that we transfer your payment to guarantee your registration for the 2017 MPHC. (Just to be clear your 2016 registration applied forward will mean you are paid in full for next year.) We will contact each team captain prior to opening registration in the fall with a discount code to register for free.

Email [email protected] with your team's desired option and we'll get things processed. Please allow us a week to process the refunds. Those who paid online through the website will be processed electronically. The others will be issued checks. ONE NOTE if you choose to apply your payment forward and for any reason the future dates don't work with your schedule we will honor the 80% refund at that time. We're trying to make this as easy as possible on everyone.

Please know that we have put a lot of time and effort into planning this year's event, and wish we had control of the weather to make this happen... Unfortunately, at this point, it is what it is, and we ask that you please understand that we have done everything we can to try to pull this off.

Thank you for your continued support of this great event, and let's hope next winter brings us some actual, "Michigan winter" weather! So, I guess here's to an early spring, open fairways and long straight drives!

Sincerely,

MPHC Board of Directors
