BPA Boosters General Meeting is  TODAY 
February 9th at 7:00pm in the BHS Library 

Please join us at the first BPA Boosters General Meeting of 2016!    We have a fun and informative night planned.  See below and also the attached Meeting Agenda  
  • Concert Choir & Advanced Women's Chorale NYC Trip - The travel agent will  be at the meeting to discuss the final itinerary & identification requirements
     In addition we will be introducing the chaperones and exchanging contact  i
    nformation.  
    Both students and parents are encouraged to attend.
  • Chamber Orchestra Tampa FL Trip - We will discuss the itinerary and plans for this upcoming trip.  Both students and parents are encouraged to attend.
  • Students participating in the spring musical, Children of Eden will be at the meeting to talk about the show & the Opening Night Gala put on by the BHS Foundation.
  • Save the Date! Musical Opening Night Gala on March 3rd & the 57th Annual Spaghetti Dinner on April 2nd.
  • Class photos from Rowland will be available to view and purchase.

8th Grade Open House for Prospective Students  Thursday, February 11th

The Following BPA Groups will be performing at the Ballard 8th Grade Open House. Please note the individual group
call times  and attire below.


Vocal Jazz  will be performing this night.  Call time is 6:45 PM, and they will be finished around 8:30 PM. Students should wear their Choir t-shirts and jeans.

The Chamber Orchestra will also be performing at the 8th Grade Open House.  Call time is 6:45 PM & they will be finished around 8:30 PM.

ORCHESTRA

Thursday, February 25th EBMEA Orchestra FestivalOrchestra parents - we still need parent chaperones to join us for this all day Orchestra festival. It is an amazing event. Please email Ms Newell at  [email protected]  if you can help.


CHOIR
The Ballard High School Concert Choir was honored to perform for the School Board meeting last Wednesday at the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence.  They presented three songs:  Indodana , a traditional South African song arranged by Michael Barrett and Ralf Schmitt,  Sweetheart of the Sun a modern choral composition by Eric William Barnum, and  Peze Kafé a Haitian folksong arranged by Sten Källman.  The audience was full of all school board directors, the district's executive directors, Superintendent Nyland, and members of the general public.

Advanced Women's Chorale will perform for the Norwegian Commercial Club on Thurs, Feb 11th  at the Leif Erikson Lodge in Ballard.  Call time is 6:45 PM  and they will should finish around 7:30/7:45 PM.  Students should wear their Choir dresses and arrange for their own transportation to and from the event.


BAND & JAZZ
Wind Ensemble Families - The final Vancouver Trip deposit of $200 is now past due. All payments MUST BE PAID by Friday, Feb 12th. NO EXCEPTIONS!  We need to have a firm number attending to make final decisions and finalize our reservations.  

The Elliott Bay Region Concert Band Festival  is  March 9th at Roosevelt High School .  Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and most percussionists will be attending during the school day.  This is an adjudicated performance and is very exciting and informative to watch.  Parents we really need your support we still need 6 chaperones please email [email protected]   if you can help.

Kudos are a great way to acknowledge the hard work and job well done of your student.  Kudos are flowers and candies with a blank note tag for you to write your special message and they will be available in the lobby for $2.00 each. All proceeds go towards fundraising for the Drama and Music Departments. 

It's not too late! Ballard Drama is offering local businesses and parents a chance to support the Performing Arts by purchasing a student Shout Out or an advertisement or sponsorship in the annual Musical Program. COMMUNITY NEWS
Summer Camp Volunteer/Leadership Opportunities at Illumination Learning Studio
The Studio offers a high-quality After School for ages K-5th grade with locations in Ballard and Greenwood.  Our program has a cultural arts concentration, providing students exposure to Interactive learning technologies, Music, Drama, Fine-Arts, Spanish and Yoga activities after school. Our staff are specialized early childhood educators and teachers.  We c urrently have  Summer Leadership Volunteer opportunities as co-leads in our exciting summer youth camps.  Interested middle and high school students should complete our  application  and return it to our registrar Ms. Ali at  [email protected]  by March 31st, 2016 .  Informal interviews will take place in early April with decisions announced Mid-April followed by an orientation in May.  Summer Camp volunteers can choose from a flexible schedule, mornings or afternoons and choice of days or weeks between June 27th and Sept 2nd.  To learn more about our camps visit  www.ILSKids.com .   We also have 2016-2017 volunteer opportunities in our After School programs.  

Magnolia Chorale is offering two scholarships ($250) for students who would like to sing with us in our spring session. "Radio Hour" will feature pop songs from every decade from the 20s to the present. Participants will enjoy 2 free voice lessons from Evan Norberg, our assistant director.   Select here for additional information.  Service Learning Opportunity!
