New things arriving from TNNA
First up - Done Roving - A U.S. Yarn from Maine!

Done Roving Garden Walk
We're delighted to bring you an American Yarn !

One of the things we love about attending TNNA, our twice a year trade show, is finding new, unique items to offer you. We're very happy to introduce you to
Done Roving Yarn of Maine. The first yarn we've brought in from them is called " Frolicking Feet - Transitions ".

This is a sock/fingering weight yarn made from 100% US materials! The sheep are raised in the US, the yarn is spun in the US. It's also super wash treated in the US (There is only one place in the US that does this) and hand-dyed in the furthest north-east corner of the US in  Charlotte, Maine! They say they have lots of time to do their dying in the winter.

They also don't use harsh chemicals or heavy metal mordants in their dying. Another big plus.

It's very soft, and features great yardage as each ball is about 118 grams of super wash merino  yielding  about 480 yards per ball!

One other thing that's fun is that each skein comes in a plastic container designed to use as a 'knit out' box! The yarn is pre balled and they have the center pull end pulled through a hole in the box and taped on the outside of the box, making it easy to get started.

We love these colors, the story, and how beautifully soft it is. Try one today for a pair of socks or a favorite wrap project.

Rylie Shawl
Rylie

Rylie, from HiKoo, is a soft blend of baby alpaca, linen, and silk. It's dyed in luscious colors and is a delight to work with. The yarn gives you plenty of drape and just a touch of halo due to the baby alpaca.

Just two skeins and this free pattern lets you create the Wandering Moon shawl by Michelle Hunter!

We think you'll enjoy this yarn for those snuggly, soft, drapey pieces.

Cotton Lustre
Rowan Cotton Lustre

Cotton Lustre from our friends at Rowan is a beautiful cotton/modal/linen blend ribbon yarn that works up beautifully on large needles for quick work. Perfect for simple, light garments, scarves, anything where you'd like some drape and soft colors. The pattern book contains 13 designs by
Sarah Hatton, a fabulous designer from the UK that has been to the shop!

Auntie Wooly Says...

Dahlings!

"Machine Washable" - we love it, we look for it. I do want to talk just a little about how we think about machine washable yarn.

To tell you the truth, the majority of the items we work up, even if it says machine washable, we still tend to hand wash. We feel this makes the item last much longer as we can be as gentle as possible with the piece. We know of vendors that say to hand wash their yarn even if they know it's superwash!

There are exceptions, of course. Linen, most cottons, and especially hemp can really take some agitation in the machine. We're very fond of making our own wash clothes from cotton and we know how well it holds up. Two wool yarns we don't worry too much about machine washing are Rowan's Pure Wool Superwash Worsted and DK. They're more 'sturdy', if you will, and will hold up pretty well to multiple washings. We'd still suggest a more gentle cycle if at all possible.

If you do machine wash one or more of your garments, use the delicate setting and cold water. We're also a fan of laying them flat to dry rather than using the dryer.

We love Unicorn Wash as well as Eucalan for our pieces, even in the machine. In a pinch, a high quality clear liquid dish detergent will work well for hand washing. You want to avoid any powders as they can build up in the stitches.

We hope this helps!

Thank you all!

Stitches West!

Once again, we're gearing up for another fun-filled weekend at Stitches West in Santa Clara! We're assuming the last of the Super Bowl revelers will have drifted away. We'll be in booth #1034 showing the latest designs from Manos del Uruguay in FinoManos Lace, and  the  new 100% super wash merino lace-weight yarn Marina. In addition, we'll also have  Algeria  with us.

To add to the excitement, we're also bringing some Mountain Colors
Twizzlefoot  and  Barefoot  sock yarns, as well as  Mrs Crosby Train Case !

Though we carry a wide variety of items from many, many vendors, space doesn't allow us to bring everything to the show. As you know, most everything can be found at our on-line store!

Look for our ad in the Stitches West Show guide!
