Orca Live! Celebrates 300th Broadcast
Last Thursday, Feb. 4, Orenco Elementary School celebrated the 300th broadcast of its student-run television show Orca Live!  More than 200 students have participated in Orca Live over the 12 years of the program, and several alumni came back to celebrate and participate in the milestone broadcast.

FEBRUARY
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the District held its first Schools Summit, at which a variety of community members were invited to learn more about the District, our vision for 100 percent of students to be engaged in their learning through real-world experiences, and to share their thoughts on how the broader Hillsboro community can help make that a reality. A second Summit is planned for Tuesday, March 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Hillsboro Main Library, 2850 NE Brookwood Pkwy., to continue and expand upon the discussion. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us! RSVP to Marleen Zytniowski by March 9.

Congratulations, Crystal Apple Nominees!
Congratulations are in order for the 19 staff members who were nominated for a 2016 Crystal Apple Award through the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. Spanish Language Coffee Chat
Superintendent Scott will hold his second Spanish language Coffee Chat of the school year on Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Shute Park Library, 775 SE 10th Ave. Please join him to learn more about what's happening in the District and to ask any questions you may have. Coffee, cookies and free childcare will be provided.   
 

Hillsboro Schools Foundation Gala and Auction
The Hillsboro Schools Foundation will hold its annual Gala and Auction event on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Northwest Events and Environments. With a Kentucky Derby theme, good food, dancing, and lots of amazing items up for auction, the evening promises to be a great time. Proceeds from the event go to support innovative education grants in our schools. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit their website.
