February, 2016
UPDATES
Can you believe it is February already?  One month of 2016 is already behind us.  The Board of Directors have been working these past months on several items.  Here are some of things we are working on for 2016:

Executive Director

A hiring committee of the board is working on hiring a new Executive Director.  We hope to have an announcement soon.  In the meantime, the Board of Directors are working on your behalf.

2016 Conference - Novemb er 23 & 24th, 2016

The conference committee has started meeting and will be providing details for this years' conference as plans progress. If you are interested in helping out with the conference, please contact Laurie Socha, Conference Chair at 204-946-3600 or [email protected]

Education Sessions

The education committee will be announcing a series of education sessions for 2016.  Laura Devlin and her committee are planning a series of sessions that will begin this spring.

We are also working with Lorch & Associates to offer an exclusive Manager Exchange series.  Share ideas, frustrations and victories with peers in the same field as you.  If we have success with this series, we plan on offering as a one day session to our members outside Winnipeg in their communities.

End of Operating Study

The results of the survey on End of Operating agreements will be out sometime in March.  The University of Winnipeg Urban Studies will be reporting back on the results of the survey.  We will plan a morning session to review the results, next steps and what we can learn from the results.

Some of the highlights are:
  • 42% of response rate - 85 total responses
  • 76% of respondents said their operating agreement has not expired
  • 81% of Boards strongly or very strongly are committed to maintaining affordable housing
We would like to congratulate Marilyn Natyna from Minitonas First Baptist Housing Corp. in Swan River who was the winner of the Surface Tablet.

Thank you to all organizations that took the time to fill out the survey.

Poor Housing - A Silent Crisis (Available at McNally Robinson)

Edited by Josh Brandon & Jim Silver it combines information from twenty seven authors both local, Canadian and International that contributed to the content.
The book tells the history of housing, where we are today and the outlook for the future. There is lots of Manitoba content, so worth the read on a cold winter day.
