Giving Consistent Attention to God
Think through your day.
To whom or what do you consistently give your attention? Work? Family? Friends? Kids' activities? Facebook? Twitter? Daily News? Blogs? Netflix and that favorite "I can't miss it" show?
Does the Lord God consistently have your attention?
Daniel gave attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer. He did this consistently.
". . . he [Daniel] continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously." (Daniel 6:10b)
"So I [Daniel] gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes . . . ." (Daniel 9:3)
Daniel had a close relationship with God. He was a man who experienced the favor of God and often the favor of men. He was a man granted great wisdom, insight, and understanding by God. Was he a spiritual super hero? I don't think he would have characterized himself that way. But, he knew there was a God in heaven who reveals mysteries (Daniel 2:28), and he was disciplined to seek Him. He consistently gave his attention to the Lord God by means of prayer.
Daniel longed for God so Daniel prayed.
Do you consistently give your attention to God in prayer? Perhaps there have been seasons of your life where you gave more consistent attention to God in prayer. Maybe prayer has been a bit of struggle. Perhaps you need some help to organize your prayer life.
Let's use the start of a new year as an opportunity to recommit ourselves to give attention to God in prayer. If you need a tool to help with this, I would highly recommend a free app (with no ads) called PrayerMate for iOS & Android.
