St. Augustine, FL - The St. Augustine St. Patrick's Day Parade is part of the 6th Annual St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12 at Francis Field and winds through downtown St. Augustine streets.
The 2016 Parade Marshal is Jerry Cameron, who
recently retired as St. Johns County Assistant County Administrator, and is currently the Community Outreach Manager for Flagler Hospital. He has also been City Manager of Fernandina Beach and Police Chief in two jurisdictions, with over 25 years in the public sector and 20 years in the private sector.
ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE
St. Augustine's St. Patrick Day Parade is the ONLY St. Patrick's Day Parade in Northeast Florida.
The Parade is an annual celebration of St. Augustine's Celtic heritage and the Emerald Isle's most revered saint.
With over 800 participants and thousands of spectators, lads and lasses converge upon the Ancient City each year, donning their tartans and green attire. Did you know that the wearin' o' the green was outlawed in the 18th Century England? Seen as a form of rebellion, the wearing of shamrocks was a crime punishable by hanging.
The St. Augustine St. Patrick Day Parade follows a route throughout downtown and ends at Francis Field just as the Celtic Music & Heritage Festival begins.
Being only a five-year-old event, The St. Patrick's Day Parade is already categorized as one of the three largest parades in the City.
Jerry Cameron
Jerry has always been an outspoken proponent of American principles and recently received the "Excellence in Community Service" award from the National Community Service Awards Committee and Maria Jefferson Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, for his reenactment of Patrick Henry's "Call to Arms" speech.
