Practice Exercise

When We Argue Inside of Ourselves

If you are going through a real rumble inside of you, stay with this basic exercise.

I feel...
I am thinking...
A higher part of me knows...

Now take time to feel all parts of you. Even if it feels really uncomfortable, stay with it. We don't bring more understanding to what we haven't felt and challenged.

Make sure you give time to feel the part of you that knows your truth inside, even if you can't live it yet. Really feel what it is like to be in that place of knowing. It is part of us rewiring ourselves.

"My Conviction is Stronger than my Thoughts." ~  Novak Djokovic, World # 1 Tennis Professional

faces - emotions
Recently I really came up against myself. I just wrote a eulogy for someone I love. It triggered another layer of inquiry, and some of my 'stuff' started to resurface again. You know what it is like when you feel you have dealt with something, and then it comes up again. That in itself is challenging.

There have been a number of deaths in my family over a very short period of time...and 2 friends as well. There was lots of sadness, grief, and tears. Then a real Rumble started inside of me about whether the people I loved should have died. I disagreed with the big guy in the sky, and started an argument within me, and with the powers that be. This is really interesting for me because my spiritual life is really important to me. Now I came up against my thoughts and convictions big time!

Judas

life lessons
I asked Bev to use the name Judas because I keep saying to myself that I know better. That is why I went into counselling. I do know better, but I just keep doing the same thing over and over again. I really Djokovic's quote, "my conviction is stronger than my thoughts." And I am a tennis player, so it has even more punch to it. I find I need the help of my friends to challenge my thoughts. I am a man and I talk to some of my male friends. I also tend to listen (to the friends I respect). I started doing this as one of my homework assignments in counselling.

Have a great Easter!

Bev
