Students in PLAN 640 Urban Design and Development Seminar, led by Associate Professor  Blake  Belanger, are developing streetscape and urban design recommendations to improve physical infrastructure and pedestrian safety on the town's primary commercial corridor. Angela Schnee of Ogden Planning and Zoning Department and Stephanie Watts, Senior Transportation Manager with the Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization provided project background and input during a design charrette on Nov. 12.

Assistant professor Anne Beamish presented "Before Parks: Public Landscapes in Colonial American Cities" at the Society for American City and Regional Planning History (SACRPH) Conference in Los Angeles, CA, Nov.5-8. 

K-State has become the first bike friendly university in Kansas! Congrats to our student Doug May, who is an intern with MPO he prepared the application and spent a lot of time collecting data.

Assistant Professor Jessica Canfield was honored as "Professor of the Week" at the K-State Men's basketball game on Nov. 6. This recognition comes from the Faculty Senate. 

Assistant Professor Jessica Canfield presented "Outside the Box: A Look at the Profession of Landscape Architecture" to Manhattan High School students as part of the K-State Presidential Lecture Series on Nov. 6.

Katie Leise, MLA '15, was honored as the KSU Olmsted Scholar at the Landscape Architecture Foundation Olmsted Scholars Luncheon and LAF Benefit.

Professor and Department Head Stephanie Rolley participated in the Landscape Architecture Foundation Board meeting, Nov. 4 and 5 in Chicago.

Professors Chamberlain, Hahn, Rolley and Winslow and 20+ students represented LARCP  at the national ASLA meeting in Chicago.

Assistant Professor Kate Nesse is presenting  The importance of quality of life in brewery location decisions at the NARSC (North American Regional Science Council) in Portland, OR Nov. 11-15.

Academic Advisor Rachel Robillard is attending the Institute for Student Learning Assessment/Diversity Summit Nov. 11-13.
OF INTEREST
The City of Manhattan is applying for a KDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant to extend the Linear Trail by 1.25 miles. Currently, the trail, after passing through the pedestrian tunnel under the intersection at Tuttle Creek Blvd & Marlatt Ave, ends abruptly with no destination.  If the grant is awarded, the trail will continue west along Marlatt Ave to Denison Ave. Click here to read more and sign a petition to show your support.

The 12th annual Community Capitals Institute (CCFI) invites abstracts from those interested in presenting a paper, workshop or poster session. The institute will be held from Jan. 5-7, 2016, in Turrialba, Cartago Province, Costa Rica. Click here for more information.
