2016 Light of Dawnn Awards and Scholarships
"Her Spirit and legacy are in good hands..." -Ian Jaffier Sr.
On Thursday, February 25, dozens of community members gathered at the West
End House Boys and Girls Club to celebrate Dawnn Jaffier and those who
follow in her footsteps. The room's windows let in plenty of sunlight, illuminating Dawnn's soft eyes and big smile depicted in the mural which hangs there permanently, watching over the boys and girls of the club. A daughter, a coach, a
mentor, and a leader who
worked tirelessly to support youth, Dawnn was an innocent victim of gun violence in August of 2014. Her legacy is carried on through the Light of Dawnn Awards and Scholarships.
The Light of Dawnn Awards recognize frontline nonprofit workers whose tireles
s
dedication to serve their community mirrors Dawnn's:
Latiana Appleberry, Mentor Coordinator at My Life My Choice; Kendall Bruce, Violence Intervention Advocate at Boston Medical Center's Violence Intervention Advocacy Program; and Tim Bulla, Manager of Clinical &
Mental Health Counseling at the St. Francis House. This year, the ceremony also included the presentation of the Light of Dawnn Scholarships to three high school seniors.

By Joel Aronson, CPA, PFS, MBA Partner, AAFCPAs Wealth Management

Keeping the door of opportunity open requires a shift in the traditional non-profit mindset. How to make that shift? You can begin by adopting a "Bucket system" that separates cash reserves into three categories, each of which requires its own cash or investment strategy: working capital, stability and other reserves, and long-term investments.
