After nearly five months of writing, editing and gathering information and dazzling photos of Basalt, the 2015
Basalt Magazine & Community Guide zooms off today to the printers. Every year the magazine is more vibrant and informative than the one preceding. This year's phenomenal growth - by nearly 50 percent - mirrors the coming together in and growing vitality of our business community.
Around the end of this month, we'll begin distribution. We have all the main locations covered from Aspen to Glenwood Springs but want to make the magazine consistently available in every restaurant, shop and business location in Basalt. If you'd like to adopt a location and help us promote Basalt and your businesses by dropping off a few magazines, please
send us a note. You can choose a section of Historic Downtown, Willits, Orchard Plaza, El Jebel, Midvalley Design & Industrial Center, Midvalley Medical, Basalt Business Center or Old Snowmass - wherever you frequent most. We'd appreciate the help; plus, it's a great way to get to know the business community and keep Basalt and all it offers in the public eye.
The Tree Farm Mixed-Use Development Proposal: Community Open House
This afternoon from 4 to 7, The Tree Farm development team is holding an Open House at the Kodiak Ski Club in El Jebel. The public are invited to stop by to view the plans, ask questions and provide comments. The Tree Farm commercial and residential development project received its first phase approval in 2009 before stalling during the recession. Property owner Ace Lane, through his company Woody Ventures LLC, has revived and enlarged the 2009 sketch plan to include up to 400 residences and around 127,800 square feet of commercial space. Apartments, lofts, townhouses, office space, restaurants, retail and a hotel are envisioned in the current plan of roughly 578,000 square feet. Eagle County Commissioners will resume their development review at the second of the three-stage approval process. If approved, the project will be phased in according to demand with expected completion by 2030 to 2035. See directions

The Chamber's May 21st Business After Hours will be held at the newly-remodeled Basalt Mountain Inn and is co-hosted by the Brick Pony Pub. Rain or shine, join us for a friendly gathering at the edge of town. Brick Pony Pub will serve up some of their delicious menu items and Basalt Mountain Inn will provide alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. You'll have a chance to tour a few rooms, network with business friends and throw your business card in for a door prize or two. Please check below for details.

Basalt Interactive Trails & Outdoor Guide
Introduced by Pitkin County Open Space and Trails in 2014 and updated this spring, the interactive Pitkin Outside map is a go-to resource for recreation in Basalt and around Pitkin County. With streets, parks, open spaces, rivers and more, it's an invaluable outdoors resource. The iconic ride up Frying Pan Road is among the biking options-delineated map, along with hiking and mountain biking in the Fryingpan Valley. The full Rio Grande Trail is there too, with detailed mileage information. Want to ride Red Table? Or find out how far the Arbaney-Kittle Trail goes? It's all there. So is the Basalt-Old Snowmass Trail and the paved bike trails that connect downtown Basalt and Willits. Anglers can even find Pitkin County easements for access to the Roaring Fork River.
Use the website's Trail Route Planner - just click on any trail - to plan a road or mountain bike ride or hike. Pitkin Outside will total up the mileage and elevation data and prep you on surface conditions. Pitkin Outside is also available as a free mobile app, with a locater function to place you on the map wherever cell service is available.

Casting For Recovery Benefit at the Dallenbach Ranch
Paula Fothergill and Scott Spooner of Taylor Creek Fly Shop are hosting a Casting For Recover benefit women's fly fishing clinic on Saturday from 10 to 3 at the Dallenbach Ranch about three miles up the Frying Pan Road. They'll cover knots, rigging rods, gear, entomology and casting. After a lunch break, attendees will enjoy private water fishing in the afternoon until 3pm. A $100 minimum tax-deductible donation is requested. Limited spots are available.
