Feed People, Not Landfills
Talking Green with EPA's Virginia Till
Tuesday April 28, 5:30-7pm
Olympian Hall

YVSC has worked for many years on waste diversion through our Yampa Valley Recycles and Zero Waste programs.  For our April Talking Green, we are excited to host Virginia Till, with the EPA's Food Recovery Program, to focus the discussion on food waste, specifically. Food is a necessity of human existence. Yet there is a gross imbalance of waste vs. need in this country.

For one, food waste makes up 18% of our waste stream (EPA.gov). On the other hand, 14% of our population is food impoverished (Worldhunger.org). If we could tip the scale on this imbalance, we would not only be feeding the hungry but reducing our carbon emissions, as well.

Ms. Till will present on the Food Recovery Challenge and what we can do as a community to begin our transition to more conscious consumers and handlers of food, as well as what partnerships will further these efforts.  Please join us!

Energy Efficiency
As a resource and catalyst for building a sustainable community, YVSC is
committed to advancing energy productivity in the Yampa Valley through education and the support of community energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.

To support this effort, YVSC has created a new Energy Program webpage, with links to Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Resources, a local contractor directory, and YVEA's  Cen$ible Energy   program.  Explore these pages for information on our vision, energy productivity, education, outreach, events, and the directory of contractors.

Upcoming events include:
May 21 - USDA's Renewable Energy for America Program (REAP) training for businesses, agriculture, and contractors|
July 16, 5:30-7:00pm - Review of Third Party Certification Programs, including LWWS, Green Globes, and Energy Star
July 17, 12:00-1:00pm -  Large -scale Commercial Energy audits

PUMP & an Alternative Fuel Car Expo
Tuesday, May 5
Car show- 4-6pm, Art Depot
PUMP- 6:30pm, Library Hall

CALLING ALL CARS!  Do you have a cool alternative fuel/technology vehicle? Do you know someone else who has one? Bring it to the show and share it with our community! Please contact the library at 970.367.4917 if you have a car to share at the Expo.

PUMP is an inspiring, eye-opening documentary that tells the story of America's addiction to oil, from Standard Oil's illegal tactics to the monopoly oil companies enjoy today. The film explains clearly and simply how we can end this monopoly - and finally win choice at the pump.
