October 2014
Issue 70

In the last month, YVSC teamed up with several organizations on two powerful events...

The Annual Community Recycling Drop Off Day and the Soup Bowl Supper were both a huge success, and it's collaborations like these that are the heart of what YVSC strives to achieve.

At the start of next month we'll host our 6th Annual CEC Green Building Tour, we're headed to Mid-Valley this year, viewing three inspiring, unique homes, as well as the Legacy Ranch.

Read on for more information on all, and thank you for supporting the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council!

The homes on the tour include an off-grid home designed to Passive-Haus standards, a sustainably built remodel, and an adobe style home with partial strawbale construction and geothermal.

Another successful Recycling Day!

On October 4th, 50+ volunteers and staff helped to direct traffic of almost 500 cars that brought in almost 30,000 lbs of electronics, 10,000 lbs of hazardous waste, 40 cubic yards of home reuse materials, and much much more.

All our diversion results are listed at
http://www.yvsc.org/2014-recycling-day-numbers/

If you missed this event and you'd like to recycle something, please reach out to Emilie Rogers at [email protected] to learn where your items can be disposed of properly.

Annual Soup Bowl Supper, October 15

Raising over $9000 in one evening - the most this event has raised - nearly 300 people shuffled in to the soup bowl line to taste delicious samples from dozens of local restaurants in their new handmade soup bowls.

YVSC and CAA would like to thank our generous sponsors for supplying food and items for this event:

All That Jazz, Caf Diva, Bistro CV, Creekside Caf, Drunken Onion, The Cabin, Freshies, Steamboat Smokehouse, Mountain Brew, Rootz, Ore House, Steamboat Cheesecakes, Egg and I, Red Bowl, Buckin' Horse Pantry, Taco Cabo, The Bakery, Kate's Cafe, Natural Grocers

And it couldn't be done without the dedication and craftsmanship of the Steamboat Clay Artisans - THANK YOU!!
