Sharing the OAR Story

OAR applied to the Emerging Leaders Institute for a service grant to develop a public awareness campaign.  OAR was selected for the grant and a 4 member ELI team began collaborating with OAR to create a plan. The plan became a video project to demonstrate that OAR is an integral part of the criminal justice system and the public safety continuum.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisor's Chair Sharon Bulova is creating a 30 minute public safety video and OAR was invited to collaborate on the video as a part of the ELI project.  The Chairman's video will now include a segment on OAR.  We have already completed the video tapping process and the final product should be ready in May.

OAR launches a new service model

OAR's new service model is based on best practice standards.  The model ensures that clients are evaluated to determine their level of risk and to identify the criminogenic factors most likely to influence future behavior.  Services are identified to address the most relevant risk factors for each client.  Read more!

Dance
Daddy-Daughter-Dance

"Fathers are essential even though they may not be living in the home," said Derwin Overton, Executive Director of OAR.

Derwin serves as a chairman for the Prince William County Fatherhood Initiative and teamed with community partners to host a Daddy-Daughter Dance on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Woodbridge. Fathers and daughters dressed up and enjoyed a fancy evening out that included dinner and dancing. The goal is to build stronger families and better relationships between men, their children, and their wives or girlfriends.

The Fatherhood Initiative holds weekly meetings at many local area churches and in local correctional centers. Men interested in participating in the program can contact OAR.
