Sheriffs from across the state, law enforcement leaders, and over 50 vendors gathered at the Desmond in Albany last week for the 81st Annual Winter Training Conference. Sessions included: Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike, NYSSAI Chairman, who is also Chairman of the Municipal Police Training Council, presenting an update on Training issues from the MPTC as well as NYSAC Public Safety Committee Priorities;" Washington County Sheriff Jeff Murphy
speaking on
"Advancing the Sheriff's Office Using Social Media;" Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour speaking on "Body Cameras: Deployment and Issues;" Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard who introduced Town of Clarence Emergency Manager David Bissonette to speak on "Responding to a Mass Casualty Event;" Clinton County Sheriff's Lieutenant Kevin Laurin speaking on "The Paperless Jail;"
Dan Stewart, Senior Justice Advisor with Cisco Connected Justice, speaking on the "NYSSA Portal Project"

In addition, the sheriffs received reports from the heads of most the state's major law enforcement entities, including: Terence O'Leary, the recently appointed Deputy Secretary to the Governor for Public Safety; Acting Commissioner John Melville of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services; Executive Deputy Commissioner Mike Green of the Division of Criminal Justice Services; Chairman Thomas Beilein and Commissioner Thomas Loughren of the New York State Commission of Correction, State Director Robert Maccarone of the Division of Probation & Correctional Alternatives; and Superintendent Joseph D'Amico of the New York State Police.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Releases Strategic Plan
|
|
| On January 6th of this year a working group met in an all-day session to develop and formulate the Monroe County Sheriff's Office 2015-2018 Strategic Plan. |
Monroe County Sheriff Pat O'Flynn announces the release of the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan, which outlines the Monroe County Sheriff's office goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics for the next four years.
The Sheriff's Office interviewed community leaders and stakeholders as part of the strategic planning process and solicited community feedback through participation in a national survey.
"The men and women of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office continue to do remarkable work as they adapt to the ever-changing needs of the community while performing their duties to the highest standards of professionalism", said Sheriff Patrick M. O'Flynn.

Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco recently presented scholarship awards for $250 each to Ramble Moore of Amityville and Dustin DeFilippo of Ronkonkoma. Both young men attend Suffolk County Community College and were awarded the New York State Sheriffs' Association Institute's 2015 Criminal Justice Scholarship for their academic excellence and for their dedicated pursuit of a career in the field of criminal justice. "Students like Ramel and Dustin have the potential to be a part of an exciting future in the field of criminal justice. The system is undergoing significant reforms and we need to continue to attract new talent to keep the momentum going," said Sheriff DeMarco.

Livingston County Sheriff's Office Welcomes New Administrative Team Member
Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty announces the addition of William Mann to his administrative team in the role of Director of Emergency Communications.
William brings over 25 years experience in law enforcement to his new position
. He started with the Livingston County sheriffs office in 1989, and then worked for 25 years in the Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida.
"With Director Mann's experience in law enforcement, dispatching, and administrative duties he will be a great addition to the Sheriff' Office. We are extremely excited to have him back," said Undersheriff Bean.
