March  2016
Hello Families,

Every day we strive to help your children develop their character by teaching the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The core values are essential principles that unite us, guide our programs, and build healthy mind, body and spirit for all:
  • Caring: to demonstrate a sincere concern for others, for their needs, and well-being.
  • Honesty: to tell the truth, demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness through actions that are in keeping with my stated positions and beliefs.
  • Respect: to treat others as I would want them to treat me, to value the worth of every person, including myself.
  • Responsibility: to do what is right, to be accountable for my choices of behavior, actions and promises.
By living the Y core values, your children show genuine concern for others, are sincere, treat others as they want to be treated, honor their promises, and are held accountable for their actions.  We believe that when we stay true to ourselves and true to others, we can accomplish great things.

Best,
The School Age Child Care Team

TRY THIS RECIPE!
IRISH SODA BREAD MUFFINS
Irish Soda Bread Muffins- moist buttermilk muffins with raisins - are a great nod to Ireland, plus this recipe uses up leftover buttermilk you may have sitting in your fridge.

Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup or half a stick) melted butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup raisins
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400F. Grease a 12-cup muffin pan.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In another large bowl, beat together the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and oil. Gradually beat in the flour mixture until just moistened. Fold in the raisins.
4. Fill each muffin cup about three-fourths full. Sprinkle  the tops with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar.  Bake 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool 5 minutes before removing from the pan. Serve warm or cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container.

DANVILLE
We look forward to our upcoming Family Night on March 17! Staff and children are hoping for warmer weather so we can get outside to play some exciting group games. We will also try some new silly snacks that the children create this month!
EAST KINGSTON
Let spring begin! We look forward to jumping into spring and learning about St. Patrick's Day through different STEM, Literacy and Art projects.
EXETER
We are excited for spring! The nice weather means more trips outside to the field where we will play group games such as climbing the mountain, pom pom matching and zoo keepers! We will also use STEM activities to discover astronomy, learn to use an anemometer, and measure snow and rain fall. We also look forward to creating St. Patrick Day crafts!
FREMONT
This month we look forward to dining with our families and friends during our Italian Dinner Paddle Plunge Fundraiser at Ellis School to raise funds for the YMCA Scholarship Fund. The children are especially excited to participate in a Pie Throwing event at the dinner, during which they get the chance to throw pie in staff members' faces! March also means we will complete St. Patrick's Day themed crafts and enrichment activities that the children are sure to enjoy!
HAMPSTEAD
Happy March everyone! It looks like spring is right around the corner and winter is far behind us (we hope)! This month is all about that little leprechaun the kids try to catch every year and St. Patrick's Day! We look forward to making St. Patty's Day creations and working on the event that everyone is looking forward to.... CARNIVAL! Bring your friends and family on March 23!
HAMPTON
This month we will continue to learn about ourselves and the world around us. We cannot wait to learn about the stars and constellations, and how water can move from one cup to another without even pouring it. Students will try new physical activities as well as some older and familiar ones this month. We cannot wait for the warmer weather to get here to stay!
HAMPTON FALLS
We are excited to see which counselor will be getting a PIE in the FACE... Will it be Jess, Jenn or Alyssa? Keep sending your children into the program with their spare change to put in the change jar of the staff member they would like to see pied in the face. 100% of the proceeds go toward the Paddle Plunge which benefits the YMCA Scholarship Fund!
KENSINGTON
We look forward to exploring different art mediums throughout the month of March. Whether using marbles or shaving cream, children will explore many different ways to create beautiful works of art.
KINGSTON
We are thrilled to continue raising funds to support the Paddle Plunge , benefiting the YMCA Scholarship Fund! Your children have been hard at work planning our Egg Hunt at YMCA Camp Lincoln on Saturday, March 19. We can't wait to see you there! We truly appreciate all of the support we have received from families and students thus far. This month we will continue implementing new enrichment activities. Our students absolutely love playing variations of dodge ball - feel free to join us during a round of Doctor Dodgeball!
NEWTON
This month we are using games like Partner Tag, Line Boogie, and the Hawaiian Roller Coaster Dance to think about teamwork, anti-bullying, and working well together in groups. Although students may not always be paired with a friend or have them on their team, they are learning to do their best and work with whomever they are playing.
NORTH HAMPTON
We are excited for St. Patrick's Day and spring weather! We will use our creative sides to celebrate the holiday by creating foaming pots of gold and Leprechaun Traps. Ask your children if they caught one of the sneaky leprechauns!
PLAISTOW
Our morning program looks forward to decorating the display board with new artwork each week- we can't wait to see your children's creativity! In the afternoon, we look forward to Read Across America projects, St. Patrick's Day crafts and creating our own comic strips!
RAYMOND
Children in Raymond look forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day with St. Patty's Bingo, Rainbow Shamrocks, and Shamrock Stampers. We will also try some new STEM activities like Water Density Rainbow and building our own anemometers.
SEABROOK
Thank you to all the families that came out to Applebee's on March 3 to support our Paddle Plunge Fundraiser to support the YMCA Scholarship Fund! We hope to raise even more funds by using change jars to determine what costumes to wear for the Paddle Plunge. Start sending spare change with your children!
STRATHAM
With spring come a few new changes in Stratham. We have started Homework Buddies; children who participate in homework time by completing homework or reading are rewarded for their hard work. We will also start different clubs each week such as Drama Club, Science Club, Sports Club and more!
