Last week, Mountain Vista High School granted at least 10 children's wishes and set a national record with the amount they raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Overall, schools so far have raised more than $285,000. And some schools are just ramping up their Wish Weeks!   Read more

Brad Cooley, a junior at Douglas County High School, was recognized in Washington, D.C. this week by Congressman Ken Buck, after winning the Congressional App Challenge for the 4th Congressional District. 
The District Art Show, featuring kindergarten through 12th grade artworks, is coming to the Lone Tree Arts Center March 9. Students, families, community members and teachers are invited to celebrate the creativity and critical thinking demonstrated by DCSD students.  Read more

STEM student named a 2016 Coca-Cola Scholar

Only 150 students were selected nationwide out of a pool of 87,000 applicants. STEM School and Academy senior, George Pandya is the only Douglas County student to be named a Coca-Cola scholar, and is one of only two students in Colorado. He will receive a $20,000 scholarship to the college or university of his choice and travel to Atlanta at the end of March for the Coca-Cola Foundation's Scholars Weekend.
 
Ponderosa grad receives Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

Rebecca Dodder, a 1993 graduate of Ponderosa High School, has been awarded the White House's highest honor for young researchers, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
 
After graduating from Ponderosa, Dodder received her Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Spanish from Vanderbilt University, before earning a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineering Systems Division. As a physical scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Dodder distinguished herself through developing innovative new approaches to evaluate current and emerging environmental challenges and opportunities associated with U.S. energy production.

DCSD IN THE NEWS
Students flagged down traders on the floor to buy and sell. They read tips and news releases to gain knowledge about different markets and followed the news to react to global demands. The trading floor was a madhouse.
The arrival of March Madness means non-stop NCAA basketball excitement for fans of all ages. Mitch Lombard, 2015 DCSD graduate and freshman guard for the University of Colorado Buffaloes, hopes his team will receive a bid to the dance.
