The English District Board of Directors met February 22-23, 2016 in San Diego, CA. During this session, the Board was hosted by First, El Cajon, CA. Click on the links below for more information.

We are just over 130 days out from the Gathering! Here are a few things coming up for you to be aware of.
Today, Friday, March 4
, 2016,
is the last day to register for the Gathering at the discounted rate of $325/person. Registration remains open but at an increased rate of $375 per person.
On Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm on the Steamboat
Natchez we will set sail on the Mississippi to live jazz music, while enjoying a mid-afternoon lunch. The cost for the event will be $30 per person. The District t-shirt is in its final design phase. The goal price point is $10 per person. Order forms for the District event and t-shirts will be emailed out by March 15, 2016.

Blessing in a brown bag
The "Brownbaggers" at Fairlawn, Akron, OH meet monthly to assemble more than 100 lunches and distribute them to those in need - feeding the body and nourishing the souls of many.

Life-saving blood
Redeemer Lutheran School in Oakmont, PA, held a blood drive for Adelaide Hagey, a one-year-old who needs blood treatments while she recovers from a bone marrow transplant from a rare bone disorder. In addition to helping Adelaide, whose siblings attend Redeemer Lutheran School, the blood donations will help re-stock the community blood bank for others.

Augusta Mennell, Campus Ministry Director at All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center in Slippery Rock, PA, shares how Campus Ministry reaches out to all students, forming life-changing bonds.
The Bonds of Friendship
An American family who adopted two children from South Korea called All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center (ASLC) asking if we knew of international students who would enjoy having a friendship family. We did.
Two brothers, who had just arrived from the Congo to study at Slippery Rock University (SRU), gladly accepted the offer of friendship. In addition to struggling to adjust to the frigid weather, the brothers were learning how to adapt to life away from their families. They were thankful for the invitation to eat out and to get pots and pans for cooking. The student meal, by contrast, turned out to be a wonderful and strengthening experience. The American family and the brothers bonded quickly - especially the children - who sat very close to the brothers during the meal and held tightly to the hands of their new friends from the Congo.

Ten new international workers - along with their seven spouses and 19 children - began a two-week orientation Feb. 29 at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis.
The international workers - nine career and one "GEO" - were recently called by the Synod's Office of International Mission (OIM) to serve in the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, South Korea and East Africa. GEO, "globally engaged in outreach," missionaries serve shorter terms than their career counterparts, typically two years.

PROFESSIONAL CHURCH WORKERS and
CIRCUIT VISITORS CONFERENCES
June 14-17, 2016

The 2016 Professional Church Workers (PCW) and Circuit Visitors Conferences will be held June 14-17, 2016 in Milwaukee, WI. The registration deadline is April 29th.
The conference is being held at:

The Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield Hotel
375 S Moorland Rd., Brookfield, WI (Thursday & Friday).
The theme of the Conference is "Loving Your Neighbor: Four Models of Sanctification." The speaker will be Rev. Dr. Leopoldo Sanchez, Associate Professor, Systematic Theology; Director, Center for Hispanic Studies; Endowed Chair, The Werner R. H. Krause and Elizabeth Ringger Krause Endowment of Hispanic Ministries at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Also, Rev. Dr. David Muench will speak on worker wellness and worker care. We are excited about the opportunity to gather together to worship, learn, and fellowship in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In conjunction with the District Conferences and meetings, English District Professional Church Workers have the opportunity to attend J2e3 (Jesus to...Everyone. Everywhere. Everyday.) Missions Summit June 13-15, 2016. To register for J2e3 please go to J2e3 Missions Summit Registration
. The summit is free. The district will pay for travel to J2e3 for those also eligible and attending the PCW conference. You will be responsible to book and pay for the extra night(s) hotel to attend J2e3. You need to register for the J2e3 Missions Summit in addition to registering for the district meetings and conferences you will be attending.

Each congregation of our District is assessed $3.75 per communicant member to cover the cost of the District Conferences. Travel, housing, and meals at the hotel are paid for the following:
- Called Pastors serving English District congregations (including Associate and Assistant Pastors)
- Called Commissioned Church Workers on the roster of Synod serving English District congregations such as Deaconesses, DCEs, Teachers, etc.
Conference housing and meals are provided at the hotel for retired pastors; they are responsible for their own transportation. Pastors and Church workers serving ministries NOT assessed as English District entities, including advisory pastors, vicars, spouses, etc., are responsible for all of their own expenses, including meals, hotel room, and transportation. (Some churches pick up the cost of their vicars and others.)
Registration at the conference
will open on Tuesday, June 14 at 6:00 pm and the Conference will begin with worship at 7:30 pm. (Tuesday meals are on your own and not reimbursable.) The PCW Conference will conclude at noon on Thursday, June 16th at the hotel which will provide airport shuttle if needed. Circuit Visitors Conference will conclude at noon on June 17th.

66th REGULAR CONVENTION of the LCMS
|

|
Plan
ning is well underway for the 66th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, to be held July 9-14, 2016 at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee.
The convention theme - "Upon This Rock: Repent, Confess, Rejoice" - is based on Matthew 16:18: "On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
"This rock" refers to the glorious confession of who Christ is, made by Peter on behalf of all the disciples. It includes the keys, which Jesus immediately gives to Peter on behalf of all believers (Matthew 16:13-19; 18:18; John 20:21-23; Treatise 25). In Jesus, the Bible tells believers that they have a rock-solid confession (John 14:6).
Since the New Testament has three vital and distinct uses of the word "confess," the convention will emphasize:
- confession as repentance, and the need for our Savior in these dark times (John 1:9; Acts 19:18),
- confession as evangelical witness to the world about the truth of Jesus, for the salvation of souls (John 1:20; 9:22; Rom. 10:9f.; 1 Tim. 6:12; 1 John 2:23; 4:2) and
- confession as the joyous praise of the Lord for His glorious gifts and the salvation of many (Matthew 11:25; Romans 15:9ff.; 1 John 1:1-4).
The LCMS convention will begin with an opening Divine Service at 7:30 p.m. July 9 (pre-service music begins at 7 p.m.). Then, business will be conducted until 6 p.m. each full day. There are 19 floor committees, and 18 of those will gather May 27-30 in St. Louis to review overtures and develop resolutions to be included in the first issue of
Today's Business, which will be available the beginning of June.
The convention will include worship opportunities and an essayist each day. On the evening of July 11, Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, WI, will host an evening event on its campus for attendees.
