December 2015
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
from Tom McGeachy, Ciminelli Real Estate Services

Happy Holidays! As we look back at 2015, it's been a great year for NAIOP and for the entire commercial real estate industry. Numerous projects are in the pipeline, buildings are coming out of the ground and Tampa Bay is booming with activity. NAIOP launched a couple of successful initiatives - the Developing Leaders Lunch & Learn series and the Newsletter you're currently reading. We joined a state-wide effort to increase diversity in commercial real estate by funding a NAIOP scholarship endowment at FAMU and continue to fund our local USF scholarship for students interested in commercial real estate. New programs this year include the TopGolf Social, LifeLink Foundation Behind-the-Scenes tour, Amazon Fulfillment Center tour, Overcoming Obstacles to Success lunch with Coach Robert Weiner and the Vault of Souls & Franklin Exchange tour.

We're looking ahead to an even better 2016, as incoming President Owen LaFave (The Bank of Tampa) takes the reins, with enhancements to our signature events and new, unique programs that you can't find anywhere else. Please join us at the Best of the Best on Wednesday, January 27 at the Westin Harbour Island as we honor this year's Hall of Fame inductee and all of the nominees & winners. We wish you a safe & fun New Year's Eve and a prosperous 2016!

VAULT OF SOULS & FRANKLIN EXCHANGE TOUR
The Wilson Company hosted over 65 NAIOP members and guests for a behind-the-scenes tour of their unique Halloween experience, The Vault of Souls in the former Exchange National Bank (now The Vault). The event creator took attendees on a private tour of the Vault of Souls and guests were greeted by surprise characters including a medium & cellist.  Attendees also learned about the important history of the Exchange National Bank and the impressive improvements The Wilson Company has made to the Franklin Exchange buildings from Susannah Wilson Smith (The Wilson Company).  Thank you to our sponsors McNamara & Carver and The Wilson Company!
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE
For more than a decade, NAIOP has been working diligently to
successfully secure tax extensions for the 15-year leasehold depreciation. Though the extensions have been effective, we have long advocated the importance of its permanency.  We are thrilled to share that we have achieved our goal, as the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 makes 15-year qualified leasehold improvement depreciation permanent!

Jackson Street, Suite 2400), the event is free and continental breakfast is served.
