Volume 22  |  Issue 1  |  March 2016

It is with great excitement and sense of accomplishment for  BASCA that I have the pleasure of announcing to you, our family, that BASCA HAS MOVED!   All of our programs have officially moved into our New Campus at 352 Stowe Avenue in Orange Park.   We are still sifting through boxes and relocating staff into the offices.  Our workshops are beginning to take shape as we expand into the larger space.

This monumental occasion would not have been possible without YOU. Your support as a volunteer and your donations to our Capital Campaign and Programs have made this dream become a reality.

We join you in the knowledge that WE are here for the intellectually and developmentally challenged individuals in Northeast Florida!

Sincerely,
John Cone
Executive Director of Community Development

Rachel loves taking pictures with her camera, participating in BASCA's many programs, and living in one of our group homes.

In the new headquarters each staff member has their own office. There is a big conference room where we can come together. We are excited for upcoming events for BASCA in 2016. Custom Creations 1 has been painting bowls for fundraising.  We thank Mary for using the bowl's at each event every month.
He is not here, for He is risen, as He said.
Come see the place where he lay.

Girl Scout Troop 82 Visits Lake Side Villa
Photo and Story by Susan Baughman

In December 2015 we had a visit from Girl Scout Troop 82. They came to visit us at Lakeside Villa.  We took them on a tour of our home and we shared a little about BASCA and they shared some of their hobbies and what they love about being in Girl Scouts.  We all had such a great time getting to know each other. The evening flew by and we made plans to visit again.  On January 25, 2016 the young women from Troop 82 came over to Lakeside villa and we made Valentine's Day cards for the residents of The Isle Health and Rehabilitation Center. Everyone had a great time listening to love songs on Pandora while working on the cards. We all enjoyed our time together and hope to be able to continue doing service projects with them. Thanks Troop 82 for a great time and continued friendship.
Tim Tebow's "Night to Shine"

Friday, February 12, 2016 was a special night out for the ladies of Lakeside Villa and the gentlemen of Secret Harbor. After much preparation, primping and preening this handsome group set out for Christ's Church in Mandarin for the "Night to Shine" prom presented by the Tim Tebow Foundation. All prom goers enjoyed a red carpet entrance, photos, limo rides, music, dancing, food and of course loads of fun. View the News 4 Jax video of the event here

Michael, Jody, and Keith are ready to dance the night away.
Keeping Healthy, Staying Fit
Photo and Story by Susan Baughman

Lakeside Villa has made a commitment to get healthier in 2016 by Stepping It Up.  Everyone in the house has a device for tracking how many steps we take a day.  During the day staff and residents check in with each other to see where they are at and encourage one another to achieve their goals.  If the ladies achieve 5,000 steps a day, they are able to pick a small prize from our prize box.  On January 25 we had our first winner from the 10,000 step prize box where there are much nicer prizes.  At 8:25pm Cassandra Todd was at 9,000 steps.  Her housemates and staff encouraged her to go for the 10,000 steps goal and a few of us grabbed our flashlights and headed out the door for a walk around the block.  On our way home Cassandra achieved her goal!!  We are all so proud of her and we are all looking forward to a healthier new year.

Event News: 11th Annual Subaru BASCA Golf Classic
11 Years and Going Strong
Story by Ron Dill, Golf Classic Vice Chair

The Friends of BASCA are presenting their 11th Annual Subaru BASCA Golf Classic on Friday, April 1st at The Golf Club at Fleming Island.   It has become one of the most popular charity events in the area and continues to be a great fundraiser for BASCA.  The tournament has raised over $200,000 in the previous ten events.  Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A of Fleming Island and dinner will be provided by Carrabba's Italian Grill of Orange Park. The entry fee is $100 and includes:  green fees, cart, range balls, tee gift (golf shirt), non-alcoholic beverages, four flights of prizes (five winners per flight), multiple proximity contests, door prizes, silent auction, and a hole-in one contest for a new Subaru.  Although this event is normally sold out with 144 golfers, contact Robin Snyder at 541-1742 to get on a wait list.
The Friends of BASCA could not put on this premier event without the assistance of our many sponsors. Don't pass up the opportunity to advertise your business at this event! Both individuals and businesses are encouraged to sponsor the Golf Classic with sponsorship levels starting at $100.  We are also looking for gifts-in-kind donations that would be used as door prizes or included in the silent auction.  All levels of support are greatly appreciated.  Golfers love to leave with something even if they didn't win it on the golf course.  Contact Robin Snyder at [email protected] for more information or to become a sponsor.
