Happy Meteorologic Spring! We hope you enjoyed your extra day of February, even if it had to be a Monday. March brings the Home and Business Expo at the high school the 5th and 6th, CLHS Variety Show 10th through the 12th, and Spring Break during the week of the 21st. The Round Table facilities discussions have wrapped up, but if you didn't make it to one of them you can still leave a comment. The March weather looks to be a mixed bag already, and with the appearance of Elsa and Anna at the Home Show, anything might happen!

Grease Wins Spotlight Awards through the Hennepin Theatre Trust

Elijah Land as Danny Zuko won an Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role award, while Megan Malaski as Betty Rizzo won an Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role.  The production of Grease  earned an Honorable Mention Overall Production, as well as several other awards.  Evaluator Shout-Outs went to Derek Frank, Tanner Marquardt, Amy Scheyer, Sanora Barucks, and Noah Brezany. You can see the complete  list of awards.

For the past ten years, the Hennepin Theatre Trust has worked with educators in a program that gives professional feedback on theatre productions.  This year, along with 40+ other schools, CLHS submitted the fall musical Grease. Additionally, there are two days of performances scheduled this summer for students to perform. Chisago Lakes will perform on Monday June 13th, and tickets for the performance go on sale March 14th through the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

Google Expeditions Comes to CL So Kids Can Travel the World
The teacher leads the Expedition while students use Google Cardboard, a virtual reality viewer made almost entirely of actual cardboard, allowing them to use a smartphone for the expedition.  There will more than two million Google Cardboard viewers in circulation by the end of the year. All equipment needed for the Expeditions arrived in a box provided by the Google Expedition Pioneer Program.

Students and teachers are traveling virtually around the world this week.  The Expeditions Pioneer Program visited CLHS on March 2nd and will visit the middle school on March 4th.  Some of the planned expeditions will visit Gettysburg, Iceland, Barcelona, and Verona. Other experiences include biomes, paleontology, urbanization, and the history of jazz.  The trips are collections of virtual reality panoramas - 360 degree photo spheres, 3D images and video, ambient sounds - annotated with details, points of interest, and questions that make them easy to integrate into curriculum already used in schools. The Wildlife Conservation Society, PBS, the American Museum of Natural History, the Planetary Society, and the Palace of Versailles contributed to developing the curriculum for students. You can see a list of available expeditions here.
