PCPI 2016 Annual Meeting will be in Chicago

Members are encouraged to participate in PCPI by coming to the annual meeting, which is held in the spring in various locations in the U.S. and Canada.  The next annual meeting will be held April 14-17 in Chicago. At the annual meeting, you can exercise your vote, network and attend educational sessions.  Previous annual meetings have featured educational sessions such as working with young children in museums and a behind the scenes discussion at the National Air and Space Museum. Participants have also been treated to a session with Teacher Tom, a cooperative preschool teacher and blogger. At the most recent annual meeting in Vancouver, Kathy Lynn, author, broadcaster and cooperative preschool advocate spoke. Stay tuned for more details on the surprises in store at the Chicago annual meeting.  One thing you can be sure to count on will be visits to area preschools.

Becky Allen Fund deadline extended to January 15

If your school could use funds for a parent education program, the Becky Allen Parent Education Grant may be just what you are looking for. The grant offers U.S. preschools up to $500 to fund parent education programs. U.S. preschools with their own direct membership in PCPI are invited to request the funds. The request deadline for this year's grant has been extended to January 15, 2016. Grant award decisions will be made soon after. Find more information and an application on the PCPI website,  http://www.preschools.coop/v/rebecca-allen-fund/

The Becky Allen Fund was established in memory of Rebecca (Becky) Allen. Becky discovered cooperative preschools when her own children were young and she learned more about cooperative preschools from Katharine Whiteside Taylor. Over the years, she was an editor, teacher, consultant, and a strong advocate of parent participation and parent administration of preschools. She served as editor of the PCPI publication, Parent Cooperator, and was a co-author of Global Connections, a history of PCPI. Becky also served as a consultant during the organization of the new Head Start program and saw to it that parent involvement was a key component of the program. On May 3, 2006, Becky Allen was inducted into the U.S. Cooperative Hall of Fame. This prestigious award recognizes those whose contribution to the cooperative movement have been truly heroic.

Support PCPI by making a Donation

At this time of year, many people are thinking of ways to help their community. If you are looking for a worthy cause, consider helping PCPI help the preschool cooperative movement. You can help by making a donation to our programs. When you make a donation, we will put it towards the PCPI General Fund or another fund that you may designate. The following are some of the programs that we actively use to help support cooperative preschools:
The Katharine Whiteside Taylor Bursary provides scholarships to help educate parents and teachers in Canada about cooperative preschools.
The Becky Allen Fund was established in memory of Rebecca (Becky) Allen, a founding member of Parent Cooperative Preschools International (PCPI). Donations to the Becky Allen Fund help provide mini-grants to cooperative preschools for parent education projects.
Marika Townshend Travel Grant The Marika Townshend Travel Grant program helps our members attend the PCPI annual meeting.

The PCPI General Fund
