WEDC LAUNCHES "MADE IN WISCONSIN" PROGRAM

MADISON, WI. Feb. 25, 2016-Companies operating in Wisconsin now have a new tool-an official "Made In Wisconsin" logo-to help market the origin and quality of their products, thanks to a new program from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).

"When we say a product is made in Wisconsin, that's saying more than just where it was produced," said Kelly Lietz, WEDC's vice president of marketing, speaking at the Manufacturing Matters! Conference in Milwaukee. "It speaks to the attributes of the product itself. It's a reflection of the quality of our natural resources and the honesty, hard work and innovative minds of our people."   (read more)

Verona Chamber Newsletter

March 2016

Wow from 50° to snow... we must be in Wisconsin! Anyone else get his or her golf clubs out last week?

First, a great big thank you to everyone (almost 80 members and guests) who attended the annual meeting last week. From the smiles I saw as people left, it was obvious they were glad they came. Illusionists Matthew & Nickey did not disappoint! They left everyone wondering how on earth did they do that! It was a magical evening!

I would like to again thank our wonderful Annual Meeting sponsors: BMO Harris Bank, Culver's, KSW Construction, Liberty Park Development, Miller and Sons, Rockweiler Insulation and Slaby & Associates.

Thanks to the generosity our large prize donation sponsors: Boebel Valuation and Tax, State Bank of Cross Plains & Capitol Bank we were able to give away a 43-inch smart TV and an Apple iPad.

This year our popular "you really can't lose raffle" offered more than 75 great prizes. A list of the members who donated these prizes appears below.

5th Quarter, ACE Hardware, AJ's Pizzeria, Alliant Energy, Avanti's, Avenue Auto Clinic, Badger Prairie Needs Network, Blain's Farm & Fleet, Culver's, Drafthouse, Edelweiss Chalet, Engineered Construction, Essentials, Fairfield Inn, Goochi Poochi, Gray's Tied House, GHC, Holiday Inn Express, Hometown Pharmacy, Hop Haus Brewing, Jordandal Cookhouse, Little Caesar's, Minerals & More, Monte's Grill & Pub, Nuage Salon, Pellitteri's, Rhapsody Arts Center, Schorr Construction, ServPro, Sugar River Pizza Company, Ten Pin Alley, The Bank of New Glarus, The Purple Goose, True Veterinary Care, Ultra Zone, VACT, VAPAS, Verona Chiropractic, Verona Press, Verona Vison Care, Walgreens, Wisconsin Brewing Company and Wisconsin Distributors.

Our networking lunch is next week on Wednesday, March 9th at Pasqual's. We are going change it up a little this month by starting at 11:30 am to allow for more actual networking. As always, we will serve lunch at 12:20 and wrap up by 1 pm. Depending on your schedule you can join us anytime between 11:30 and noon. Cost for this lunch will be $12 and you can register later in this newsletter.

Three of our committees are gearing up again. The Ambassadors Committee recently met and is looking for members to join them! Ambassadors help us welcome new members, retain current members and recruit new members. This is a fun and rewarding way to assist your chamber and channel your enthusiasm for our organization.

Our marketing and promotion committee will be meeting on March 15th to put together a comprehensive plan for promoting the chamber and Verona. If this is where your passion lies please let me know. We would love to have you on the committee!

And finally if the snow has you down because you were ready for golf when mother nature teased us last weekend you will be pleased to know that the golf committee will be getting together in the next couple of weeks to set the date for the golf outing and completely revamp the event. We would love to have new ideas to make this event even more fun!!

As always please let me know what you would like to see from the Chamber! I want your feedback!

Awards Presented at Annual Meeting

I n addition to being a fun way for members to better get to know each other, our Annual Meeting is also the time when we honor those members who have gone above and beyond for the Chamber. This year we honored five people who have put their heart and soul into making our Chamber a more successful organization.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Kate Schacherl, Jen Miller and Jess Parker
Kate Schacherl, Jen Miller and Jess Parker  more than earned the title of 2016 Volunteer of the Year! They have literally grown the Chamber's "Verona Young Professionals" group out of dust. These three hard-working, creative and smart young women have turned this group into a vital and vibrant part of the Chamber.

Since its inception in 2015, Young Professionals has held numerous social networking events, organized and participated in a variety of give-back activities within the Verona and greater Madison communities, and served to engage younger area professionals - Our "next generation" - in Verona Chamber activities.
Each of these women have demanding jobs and a variety of other obligations. Yet, they have stepped up in superlative support of Verona and the Verona Chamber through this great sub-group.

DIRECTOR'S AWARD
Tara Osterholz
Tara Osterholz  was given the Director's Award for her long-term dedication to the Chamber and the Community at Large. Tara is not only extremely active in many Chamber activities - the Business/Education Partnership, Spin the Wheel at Hometown Days, the Secretary of the Chamber Board of Directors - just to name a few. She is also an active member of the Verona Lions Club and a successful business owner.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Tara in my first few months on the job and can tell you she has been one of my go to people as I have been settling in.

PRESIDENT'S AWARD
Karl Curtis
Finally, the recipient of the President's Award was Karl Curtis in recognition of his longtime service to the community and Verona Area Chamber of Commerce. Karl was the longest serving Executive Director of the Chamber since it became a paid position. Under his watch, the Chamber took over the annual Hometown Days festival, helped promote the Summer concerts-in-the-park series, supported many local events including the Verona Area Performing Arts Series, the Verona Area Community Theater and the Verona Loop of the Ironman Triathlon. Nice record of accomplishments, Karl!

Karl is now with the Brain Injury Alliance of Wisconsin and we wish him well in his new endeavor.

So, if you see any of these well deserving members out and about in Verona, please offer your congratulations to them!
