Happy Hounds News
March 2016

Sunday, March 20th is the first official day of Spring! As much fun as the pups had playing in the snow, I think we're all ready for warmer weather, lounging in the sun and pool parties. If you're looking to plan a vacation during Easter break, please be sure to reserve early for your pup's play dates and slumber parties to be assured we have spots available. Reservations can always be adjusted to better suit you and your travel plans.

Beginning March 1st, 2016, there will be a price adjustment. Please refer to our website for updated pricing.

Sincerely,

Christine Perez

Dogs of the Month

Meet Baxter, a boxer. Baxter joined the Happy Hounds family in January 2014 at the age of 4 months old. He's the typical boxer, a big goofy, playful man. Baxter is always ready to play from the moment he walks in and is rather reluctant to leave. This boy is always on the go! Whether it's playing tug with a few friends or bouncing around with his and his brother's best friend, Luna, a boxer mix. Not long after Baxter joined our Happy Hounds' family, his parents welcomed home a new pooch, another boxer. Clyde joined the Happy Hounds family in November 2014 at the age of 5 months. Though he may not be blessed with a ton of brains, he sure makes up for it with spirit and heart. Clyde is such a sweet, gumpy pup. He was recently diagnosed with a heart condition which limits the amount of play and exercise he can get. In true Boxer spirit, Clyde has never once let his health affect his spirit.

Meet Gracie & Maggie, both rat terriers.Gracie & Maggie joined the Happy Hounds family in May 2014 at the age of 12 years. Gracie is the princess of the family. She's the dainty one who always wants to snuggle and relax. Gracie just loves Christine and her office, especially her comfy, office chair. If she's not found snuggling on the chair, she's often curled up in the basket of neatly folded office blankets. Maggie is the tomboy, always eager to boss around any big dog. It's a riot watching her stand on her back legs just to try to make herself look bigger. Though she does get plenty of office nap time, this girl loves to hang with the big guys!

K-9 Veterans Day
The official K-9 Corps was created March 13, 1942 and it was agreed to declare March 13th as K9 Veterans Day. Though this holiday has not yet been declared a National holiday, it is recognized in California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia & West Virginia.

The Michigan War Dog Memorial and Cemetery is in South Lyon, on Milford and 11 Mile Road. It is a beautiful memorial and final resting place for the dogs of Michigan that have served our country and state so faithfully.

K9 Veterans Day is intended to honor military dogs as well as those working with police, customs, border patrol, service, therapy and other working dogs whose mission it is to protect and serve the homeland and people within it.

Working dogs are commended for their loyalty and devotion and are known for placing themselves in harm's way even to the point of making the ultimate sacrifice for their partners, handlers, and trainers.

Friendly Reminders
*  When boarding your dog with us, we MUST hav e your dogs updated vaccination records 48 hours BEFORE he/she begin boarding.  If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.

*  Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with no tags attached. You can keep the snap collar in your Happy Hounds backpack.  If this is not his/her daily collar we will change it out when your dogs arrive at Happy Hounds. This is important for your dogs safety.

*  Be sure to inform us of any changes in contact information; phone numbers, email/home address, emergency contact, etc.

*  If a family member or friend is picking up your pooch from daycare or boarding, you must pre-pay their bill. If it's a last minute decision to have someone else pick your pup up, please give us a call with payment and let us know who we should be expecting.

We'd be more than happy to take any and all plastic bags off of your hands.
