It's a New Year!
Skip the Chips
Are you heading out to a friend's place for New Year's Eve? Show your loved ones how much you care about them by bringing along food that is tasty AND healthy.

It's easy to make finger foods a bit healthier. Simple tricks like using veggies in place of chips will cut down your calories, no matter what you're dipping them in. Using veggies as chips will also give you vitamins and fiber, which makes you feel fuller, faster.

If you're in charge of the chips and dips, impress your friends with with these homemade treats. The taste is better and they're a lot better for you!

Dips:
  • Salsa: Ditch the store bought salsa and make your own. Go for easy to make fresh Pico de Gallo or Bruschetta
  • Try easy Black Bean Dip for more protein and less fat.  Much like fiber, protein helps you stay full which prevents overeating.
    • 1 can black beans
    • ½ cup salsa (use the one you just made!)
    • 2 Tbsp lime juice
    • 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro
    • ¼ tsp cumin
*See tips below for ways to create different tasting black bean dips*
Chips:
  • Bringing tortilla bowls or cups? Trade the tortilla shells for lettuce cups! Lettuce still has that crunch that we're looking for in a snack without the grease, salt, or added carbohydrates.
  • Turn fruits and veggies into chips for dips (see below).
Start the New Year off right with these healthy tasty treats that can be enjoyed all year long. Trust us, they'll all pair well with the New Year's toast.

HARVEST HOME WISHES YOU AND YOURS A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND ALL THE BEST IN 2016!
