This month, we re-cap the Easter Egg Hunt and include a link to photos of the smiling kids and everyone else who pitched in to help.

Resident Judy Adams provides us with fascinating information about World Book Night and I recap this year's construction plans for Village and Township roads.

The upcoming schedule for the Wadsworth Queens is presented and there are two events that you might be interested in.  We also profile Ben Dolan, our newest Trustee, and welcome him to the Village Board.

Resolutions honoring two former Trustees and a Zoning Board Member are mentioned and Hope Forcier, Manager of our 2013 Wadsworth Farmers' Market, outlines the great progress that has been made and notes what still needs to be done.  The Market doesn't start until July but a few more things need to be done now.

Easter Egg Hunt a Big Success

Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt was another hit with hundreds of kids and parents turning out for the fun.  Little kids, medium kids and some BIG kids showed up to gather 5,000 plastic eggs stuffed with things your dentist wouldn't care much about.  But heck, this day comes but once a year.

A big thanks goes out to the Wadsworth Queens and their mothers for making this event happen.

Resolutions

At the April 16th Board of Trustees meeting, resolutions were passed honoring two men for their services to our Village.  Mike Witte was recognized for his four years of service, including that of Community Volunteer and Trustee.  John Jecevicus was noted for his twelve years of service on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

At the May 7th Board of Trustees meeting, Rodney Johnson will be honored for his four years of service on the Village Board, which concluded at the end of April.

Thank you, gentlemen.
Wadsworth Reads: World Book Night

World Book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person. Each year on April 23 (birthday of Shakespeare and Cervantes), thousands of volunteer book givers distribute half a million free paperbacks to readers in their communities.  Out of thirteen possible titles, resident book giver Judy Adams chose Population: 485, Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time, Mike Perry's memoir about first responders in a small town Wisconsin volunteer fire department.

"Perry pretty perfectly captures life in a small town, smaller than Wadsworth, but very similar," Adams says. "You'll recognize the humor and heartbreak, his quirky co-workers and neighbors; you'll witness what it's like to be a first responder and sense his thoughtfulness, how much he cares for his community.  You just want to keep hearing his stories.  And the last chapter is simply stunning."

Each book giver only had twenty copies to distribute, so Adams hopes that recipients circulate these copies throughout the Village. "Read it and share it with someone.  And if any readers want to get together to talk about the book, let me know, and we'll find a time and place."

Road Construction

The misery continues.  You see it every day.  I heard there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but personally, I haven't seen it yet.  The only tunnel I've seen is the one between two rows of orange barricades flanking the County roads.

There is some good news, though.  We are repairing a number of Village roads.  This is a list of what's getting fixed this summer:

Village Projects:

Resurfacing of McCarthy Road, Sandy Court, Bartlett Lane and Mauser Drive

Roadway patching of Cermak Avenue

Roadway crack sealing of Cermak Avenue

Culvert replacements on 9th Street and Mauser Drive

The Village hopes that  all these  projects will be completed by the end of July

Also, Lake County Public Works will be re-striping Village roadways in late summer

Newport Township Road District Projects

Resurfacing of Dilleys Road from Orchard Bluff Lane north to Mill Creek Road

Resurfacing of Plaza Lane

Please keep posted to the Village's website for updates regarding on-going County and State roadway projects in our area.
Wadsworth Queens

The Wadsworth Queens have been very active in helping with various Village activities.  The Village Board is proud of them and they have become a major asset to the community.  The following is a list of upcoming events and we hope that you can support them.  Proceeds from fundraisers go to charity.

Their Eighth Annual Golf Outing will be held on May 19th at the Midlane Golf Resort.  You might help out by being a sponsor and getting a chance to promote your business.

June 23rd brings the Annual Queens Pageant to Midlane once again.  The event commences at 2 PM and is really something nice to watch.

If you have any questions or just want to help out, call Pageant Director Angelique Marie at 224-374-0674.

New Board Member

We welcome Ben Dolan to our Board.  He was elected in April and will be sworn in on May 7 at the Village Board meeting scheduled for that evening.

Ben is a youthful 31 and a lifelong Wadsworth resident.  He is a union electrician and holds the position of Project Manager and Estimator at his company, which includes project cost management.

He brings an excellent skill set to our Village in that he's worked on many, many municipal projects including water and waste water, is knowledgeable about building codes and has experience working with civil engineers.

His vision for Wadsworth?  To maintain the rural character in the core areas, while encouraging appropriate development outside that core,  to develop a unique and interesting downtown and to get more residents involved in our government.

Ben will be a great addition to our Village.

Farmers' Market Coming

(By Hope Forcier, Farmers' Market Manager)

I am delighted with the offers of help and support. It is gratifying to be putting time and energy into something people want and are willing to support. Thank you.

In May, we will need help distributing our one page hand outs.  They will be available at the Village Hall. Pick them up and put them anywhere you can get permission.  We need all of Lake County to help so our customer base will grow. The Village needs your help and support for this to happen.

If you are thinking about being a vendor or just want to help out in a small way, please contact me at [email protected]

We are a producer's market so we are looking for vend0rs who make or produce what they sell. Vendors must make reservations ahead of time.

We have firm commitments from eight vendors so far and tentative commitments from another eight.

There will be University of Illinois Master Gardeners at the Market to answer your gardening questions and solve any gardening problems you might have.

For the first six weeks they will be in attendance every week.  Then for the next seven weeks it will probably be every other week.   The Market's facebook and the Village web page will let you know if the MG's will be in attendance on a given week.

We are still looking for more entertainment:  groups or individuals to sing, dance,  give demonstrations on things as Dog Agility, Zumba., etc.  If you know of anyone, please have them contact me.

Just think!  Five years from now when we have the best Farmers' Market in N.E Illinois you will be able to say I helped get that Market going, I supported it and helped make it grow.
