New Refuse & Recycling Pickup Options

As you have seen in the recent past, the Village solicited feedback from its residents concerning refuse & recycling pickup.  Since 1990, all residential customers had to use one specific hauler for recyclables collection; refuse collection could be handled by any hauler of one's own choosing.

A full-franchised system would have required all residents to have refuse accounts, to use one specific hauler, but may have led to lower pricing and less trucks on our roads.  After a number of discussions about this issue in addition to reviewing the feedback received from our community, the Village Board had decided to not renew our recyclables collection agreement and instead chose to license all haulers who provide service in town.

This option allows residents free choice for all pickup services and does not mandate that one must have a refuse or recycling account.  As part of the Village's license regulations, all customers who are provided recyclables collection service by licensed haulers must be supplied 65 gallon recycling carts.

These carts are easier to transport to the end of one's driveway and also promote additional recycling by residents.  The carts will help Wadsworth and Lake County with their goal to achieve a 60% recycling rate by 2020.

People are encouraged to"Recycle First and Trash Last."  Please click here
to view the new regulations established by the Village Board related to licensing of waste haulers.  If you have any questions, please contact Moses Amidei, Village Administrator, at 847.336.7771.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Village has received a number of phone calls related to "service agreement" letters that were recently mailed out to residents.  The Village can only suggest to you that you are not required or under any obligation to sign any such service agreement that you feel is unreasonable.  Again, residents have free choice regarding whom to use for refuse and recycling collection; other options may be available to you that do not require similar terms or conditions; click here for the contact information of haulers that serve our area.
Mosquito Spraying This Weekend

Clarke Mosquito will perform a misting adulticiding application this weekend in efforts to reduce the adult mosquito population in our area.  This effort is being coordinated with neighboring communities.

The application will take place late Sunday evening/early Monday morning using a truck-mounted spray.  Residents who wish to be notified prior to any adulticiding treatments should contact the toll-free Mosquito Hotline at 1.800.942.2555 and ask to be placed on the Village of Wadsworth prior notification list.

You will receive a call the day of the application.
Sedge Meadow Forest Preserve Improvements

The Lake County Forest Preserve District is currently making improvements to its Sedge Meadow Preserve's parking lot.  This Preserve is located on the south side of Wadsworth Road just west of the Des Plaines River.  The improvements to the parking lot will allow for the parking of vehicles with horse and snowmobile trailers.

The Preserve's trail system will also be reconfigured as a result of these improvements.  The District hopes to open their new parking lot this fall.  Please click HERE to view a plan of what the area will look like when completed (may take a little while to load).
