In this edition -

We bring you up to date on many things that are happening in our Village.  The repair schedule for Chicago Avenue, the Farmers' Market opening, and the baseball field availability information are all here.

When it comes to food, you can find a discount coupon for the Savanna House and photos about the opening of our new Dunkin' Donuts.

On a more technical side, the Comprehensive Plan is nearing completion and is anticipating more public input.  We've also presented a pie chart that shows which Lake County governments eat more of your pie than we do.  I'm not sure if it's a cherry or apple pie, but if it were a meat pie, I'm sure it would be made out of pork.

In two other FYIs we note property on Rt. 173 that we own which is for sale and also that we're planning two Concerts in the Park for later this summer.

As always, let me know if you are interested in seeing any other information printed here and also any "cheers and jeers" in general.

Chicago Avenue repair -

The winter season actually did end a while back so since it's not winter anymore, it must be construction season.

And so it is.

The construction projects of the last two years are mostly completed, but if you've driven down Chicago Avenue lately you know it's a mess.  Therefore, the entire length of it will be resurfaced this summer.  The installation of the final lift of asphalt is scheduled for completion by early next week; punch-list items should be completed by the end of July.
Play ball!

Baseball/softball teams are allowed use of Campanella Field for one day during the week.  Mondays are still open for use by a local team.

For more information and to make reservations, contact Administrator Moses Amidei at 847.336.7771.
Dunkin' Donuts grand opening -

The new Dunkin' Donuts at the intersection of Routes 41 and 173 held a grand opening on June 20th.  Mayor Ryback had the ribbon cutting honors, and did so with a pair of giant, gold-plated scissors.

The Dunkin' owner, Andy Ali, (to the left of the mayor), plans to open a second store on the corner of Wadsworth Road and Route 41, much to the delight of Victoria Harvey, granddaughter of Trustee Ken Harvey.

Farmers' Market update -

Hope Forcier, the head of the market, gives this update:

Friday, July 11, 2014, 2pm-7pm, is the opening day for our market.  It's at Wadsworth Park just west of the intersection of Delany and Wadsworth Roads.  Come on out, meet your friends, and support the Market.  It's the place to be on a Friday afternoon.

You asked for more veggie venders and we now have four of them.  Three, all local, will be there opening day.  Tom Duncan comes from Beach Park.  Both Ichi Manitoulin and Straight Tillin', with their produce and preserves, drive all the way from Chicago Avenue in Wadsworth.  A fourth farmer is also a Wadsworth resident and will start in mid-August.  Mirai corn will be available beginning July 25th.  Be sure to stop by and say "Hi" and then "Buy" some stuff!

There's lots of good things to eat from our bakers, plus fudge and locally made granola.  We have hand made crafts as well as things from other interesting commercial vendors

Comprehensive Plan update -

After reviewing public feedback, the Plan Commission directed the Village Planner to make changes in the draft of the Comprehensive Plan.  Those changes included reworking language regarding compliance, implementation and future land uses.  Changes to maps included eliminating a trail extension to the Forest View Subdivision, keeping the curve in Chicago Avenue, and removing the conceptual placement of senior housing and village homes in the Downtown Area.

At a subsequent meeting on June 11, the Plan Commission reviewed the revised draft and forwarded it to the Village Board with a recommendation for approval.

Additionally, the PC recommended that an Economic Development Committee be formed to explore Wadsworth Crossing occupancies as well as viable businesses for other areas of the village.  Another recommendation addressed the need for a feasibility study of options for future water and sanitary systems in the Downtown Area.

On behalf of the Plan Commission, I'd like to thank all those who voiced their opinions and brought us suggestions and vision.  One of our over-arching goals is an involved, informed citizenry.  Please continue to attend meetings, read newsletters, patronize our farmers' market and other village activities, and volunteer, volunteer, volunteer.

Pie charts and taxes -

We know many of you love analyzing things with pie charts so we have prepared a sample chart for you.  You can see all the taxing authorities who chow down on different slices of your real estate tax pie.

This is representative of a residence in the Mulberry
Subdivision of Wadsworth.  In our village, depending on where you live, there are different school districts, fire protection districts, library districts, etc.

Therefore, tax rates vary depending on where in the Village you live.

Even though your specific pie chart might be different from this one, the percentage differences are relatively minor.

(For an easy reading summary of how your tax bill is computed, take a look at the May 20, 2014 edition of the newsletter.)

On this particular tax bill, the portion of the bill that gets remitted to the Village amounts to only .180% of the overall total, far less than even 1%. You can easily see which taxing authorities enjoy dessert on the rest of the pie.
