The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.
  - Phil Jackson

To be successful, the team, whether its a musical ensemble, a theatre troupe or a corps of dancers, all individuals need to be present if it is to be strong.

As an El Sistema-inspired program, ACAM emphasizes the importance of community, and this means regular attendance in classes and ensembles of string-wind orchestra and the guitar-percussion-recorder.  Having all individuals present is necessary to create art in community.

A missing actor, dancer or musician diminishes the creative outcome.  As ACAM students work together, they realize their importance as individuals and as vital members of a team.

 Woodstock Duo Delivers
a Musical Feast
ACAM students show appreciation for the Woodstock Duo.

The Woodstock Duo of Annie on cello and David on guitar tied their musical selections to an imaginary feast:  paella for Granados of Spain, churrasco from Brazil, and strudel from Germany.  This virtuosic duo, courtesy of the Gluck Fellows of the USC Thornton School of Music, performed February 17 at Angelica Center to ACAM students, parents and neighbors.

Before ending with deviled eggs and an amazing Jimi Hendrix piece, the duo explained the connection they have with Woodstock.  Annie and David grew up together on Woodstock Street in New York and have known each other since they were four and five.

For ten years they have played together and are continuing their partnership at USC Thornton School of Music.
