The Village is putting on a Bicycle Safety Rally for the local grade school children and we need your help. The more volunteers we have, the better the rally will be for the children. The Rally will be held at the Farmer's Market in Wadsworth Park on Friday, September 12 between 4 and 6 p.m.
The Rally will consist of:
- A short class on rules of the road, signals and signs;
- Safety inspections of both bikes and helmets; and,
- Information on basic bike maintenance.
The children will demonstrate their riding, maneuvering and listening skills at a series of 6 or 8 course stations.
As a guideline, we will be using the Secretary of State's
Manual for a Bicycle Skills Course. The children will be in competition with themselves to see how many points they earn at the end. Next year they can beat their own score.
We need lots of volunteers to ensure a program that will be both fun and useful for the young cyclist. Volunteers are needed to help prepare prior to the event as well as manning the stations on Friday, September 12. Scorecards need to be made and also station signs.
PR Volunteers will be the extremely important hub in our wheels. Since the event is open to any grade school student, we need to get the information out via public service announcements to the newspapers, schools and radio. We all will be putting in a lot of work. If we get a great turnout and the children have a good time then it will be worth the effort. If you have any experience with PR or are willing to learn we need your help.
If you are willing to help in any area to make this effort fun for the children, please contact Hope Forcier, Wadsworth Farmer's Market Manager at
[email protected]. You may also call the Village at 847.336.7771 or talk directly to Hope at our weekly market on Fridays from 2-7 p.m.
Volunteers do not just do the work -
they make it work.
