A partisan primary election was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. A total of 460 ballots were cast in Wind Point for a turnout of 33.9% of registered voters. The countywide turnout was 19.3%. Click here to view the election results for Wind Point.

• Watch for school buses and remember it is illegal to pass a school bus loading/unloading children. State law requires that motorists stop 20 feet behind a school bus that has its lights flashing and is stopped.
   
• Always obey school zone speed limit signs. Remember, traffic fines double in school zones.
   

• Parents/guardians drop off and pick up your children in your school's designated areas, not the middle of the street.
   

• Be alert for children who might dart across the street or between vehicles on their way to school.
   

• Keep an eye on children gathered at bus stops.

The Friends of the Wind Point Lighthouse 501c3 non-profit organization will once again be hosting tower climbs on the 1st Sunday of the month -- September & October, 2014. 

Your Tower Climb begins with a 12-15 minute presentation by our "Keeper, Pete Peterson", followed by the 15-20 minute climb to the top of the tower, an opportunity to view our Memorial Brick Garden on the shore of Lake Michigan and a visit to the Fog Horn Building Museum.

Please call 262.880.8266 to make your reservation by the Saturday immediately preceding the Sunday of the climb.  Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the time scheduled for your climb.

 Tower Climb Tours are conducted the first Sunday of the months listed below from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Included with your ticket is a visit to the Fog Horn Building Museum on the grounds.

Tower Climb Safety Rules:

1. Due to safety and liability concerns, no children under age 6 are admitted to the tower.
2. Sturdy walking or tennis shoes must be worn; no flip-flops or high heels.
3. You must be physically fit to climb 11 stories (144 steps).
4. Each group is limited to 15 people.

Prices:

• Children ages 6 - 12  |   $5.00
• Everyone over age 12  |   $10.00

The Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) is considering an 11% increase to Caledonia Utility District's water rates, including its wholesale water supply to Wind Point. The proposed increase is due to increased plant and operating costs. In turn, the average Wind Point residence using 18 units of water per quarter will see about an $8.00 increase in the water portion of their quarterly bill. It is not known at this time when the increase would go into effect. More information will be posted on the Wind Point website and in an upcoming E-News when it is available.

The Village Board held a regular meeting on Thursday, August 14. The Board...

• Approved a pay request to Payne & Dolan for the 2014 paving program in the amount of $76,430.98 and a change order for grading and installing grass along the pavement in the amount of $7,800.
   
• Approved final payment for the 2013 paving program in the amount of $1,151.10.
   
• Heard an update on the Caledonia Utility District's water rate increase application.
   
• Reviewed a tentative timeline for the 2015 budget process.
   
• Heard a report from Police Chief Rossman on traffic signage.
   
• Heard an update on the lighthouse grounds landscaping plan.
   
• Discussed the draft property maintenance ordinance and public input received. The item was referred to the administrator for revising, specifically on item 16.13(9) regarding landscaping, surfaces and clutter.
   
• Reviewed results from the resident survey.
   
• Approved the purchase of replacement village office door the amount not to exceed $1,020.

The Village Board will meet for regular meeting on Thursday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Hall.
