Yard Waste Collection
The first yard waste collection day of the season is Monday, April 6 and it continues weekly through November 30. Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, yard and garden debris and brush including clean woody vegetative material no greater than 4 inches in diameter; it does not include branches, stumps, roots or shrubs with intact root balls.
Set yard waste out in brown paper bags with each bag containing a green yard waste sticker purchased from the Village Office, located at 215 E. Four Mile Rd. for $1.00 each. If you are not able to get to the office during office hours you can mail a check with a self-addressed stamped envelope or order stickers online and we will mail them to you!

Branch Collections
The Village has added an additional branch collection date this spring on April 14. Regular branch collection will then continue the second Tuesday of each month from May through November. It may take a day or two for your branches to be collected, depending on demand and weather.
Branches should be placed by the road in small, reasonably uniform piles. Piles should not exceed 4 feet in height and 4 feet in width. Branches that exceed 8 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter will not be collected. Collection is free of charge and no stickers are required to be placed on branch piles. Please note branch collection is for tree maintenance, not tree removal. For more information on branch collections, click here.

Household Hazardous Materials and Medicine Disposal
Wind Point contracts with the City of Racine to offer household hazardous waste drop-off ($3.60 of your tax bill goes toward this service). This includes items like automotive fluids, CFL light bulbs, paint thinners and removers, household chemicals and more. To view a full list of accepted items, click here.
The drop-off site is located at 6200 21st St in Racine (just west of Hwy 31 and north of the old Sam's Club). It is available every third Saturday from April to October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting April 18.
Unwanted medications are collected on April 18 and October 17 at the household hazardous waste collection site (listed above). These items may also be disposed at the drop boxes any time at Racine Police Dept., 730 Center St., or Lakeview Pharmacy. For more information on medicine collection, click here.

Committee Vacancies
Interested in serving the Village as a member of a board or committee? The Village is seeking Wind Point residents to fill a vacancy on the Architectural Review Board and the Board of Appeals.
The Architectural Review Board meets as-needed to review designs for new projects. See the ARB Guidelines document for more information. The Board of Appeals meets as-needed to hear and decide on appeals relating to the Village's zoning code.

| Friends of the Lighthouse Annual Meeting and Education Night Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. -- Village Hall at the Lighthouse  Friends' Annual Meeting and Education Night is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall, Wind Point Lighthouse. There will be a brief meeting and election of officers, followed by our Education Night speaker, Mark Kuehn, Curator of the North Point Lighthouse in Milwaukee. Mark brings his expertise in planning events at North Point and raising funds for maintenance of the site. We are looking forward to hearing from him. Refreshments will follow the meeting. Starting Plants from Seeds - Great Activity for Kids
Starting plants from seed has many practical benefits: You save money, get a head start on the growing season, and choose from varieties far beyond those locally available. By starting seeds, you also get to experience the joy of watching a seemingly lifeless seed sprout into a living plant.
A seed is a plant embryo and its initial food supply is stored within a protective coating. Seeds remain dormant until a combination of moisture, temperature, air, and light triggers germination.
Seeds have different shelf lives. Some will remain viable for hundreds of years, whereas others may only store well for a couple of years.

Polls Open on April 7 for Spring Election
Voting for the Spring General Election takes place Tuesday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Prairie School (Johnson Athletic Center). The spring ballot includes races for village president, village trustee, municipal judge, county executive, school board, state supreme court justice and circuit court judges, as well as a statewide referendum question. To view a sample ballot, click here. In-person absentee voting is available at the Village Office through this Friday, April 3. Photo ID's are not required for this election.

2015 Property Assessments
Associated Appraisal is in the process of completing the 2015 Real Estate Assessment Roll. When the initial roll is complete, Associated will mail notices to all property owners whose assessed values have changed from 2014.
All property owners have an opportunity to request a review of their assessment anytime by calling Associated Appraisal at 1-800-721-4157 or email [email protected]. You can also speak to an assessor during Open Book on Monday, May 4, 4-6 p.m. at the Village Office.
If after speaking with the assessor a property owner is not satisfied with the property value, they may file an objection to the Board of Review. The 2015 Board of Review will meet Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Hall (Lighthouse).

2015 Road Projects
Road work is scheduled to take place this summer on Lake Meadow Dr. (including Applewood Ct.) and Lamplighter Ln.
Lake Meadow Dr. and Applewood Ct. are scheduled for slag sealing.
The slag sealing process involves spraying liquid asphalt on the street and covering it with a product called slag, an aggregate similar to sand. The road will remain open during the work. Crews will come out twice to sweep excess slag, however loose slag may be present until the following spring. The loose slag is known to stick to shoes or tires, and cyclists may wish to consider alternate routes to avoid loose slag from impacting bike tires.
A portion of Lamplighter Ln. near the entrance of The Shores is scheduled for pavement and drainage work. The project involves replacing asphalt and reconstructing three catch basins. The work is expected to take place in early summer over the course of about three to five days. Access in and out of The Shores should not be affected.
Residents near the above roads will receive more information as the construction dates get closer.

Reminder Not to Feed Deer
Residents are reminded that the DNR prohibits the feeding of deer and other wildlife (except birds and small animals). Hang bird feeders at least 8 feet off the ground. A pulley system can make lowering the feeder convenient for easy refilling.
To discourage deer from your yard, use unpalatable species when landscaping around homes. Plastic netting or wire cages can be used to prevent browsing on individual plantings. Taste and odor repellents and scare devices (e.g., lights and noises) can be effective for preventing deer browse although their effectiveness can vary based on environmental conditions and the number of deer in an area. Some deer may become accustomed to these tactics.
Be extra cautious for deer while driving near wooded areas and during times of the day when deer tend to be on the move - between 5-8 a.m. and 5 p.m.-midnight. Deer are pack animals. So if you see one, be assured that others are usually close by.

Village Board Highlights
At the regular meeting on March 12, the Village Board...
- Heard a presentation by Julie Craig of Gordon J. Maier & Co. on the 2014 Village audit;
- Approved a bid from Payne & Dolan for the 2015 road program on Lamplighter Ln. in the amount of $53,151;
- Approved an agreement with the Friends of the Lighthouse for use of the lighthouse grounds for 2015, subject to a final review by the village attorney;
- Approved a park permit application submitted by Wind Point Living Magazine for a pet parade at Village Green Park on June 25 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. (with rain date of June 26) with conditions;
- Approved the Prairie School's use of Village Green Park tennis courts on May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and May 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
- Instructed the lighthouse caretakers to proceed working with Preservation Racine on including the lighthouse caretakers quarters on their historic homes tour on September 27, subject to them reimbursing for two police officers to provide security;
- Approved amendment #5 to the Household Hazardous Waste Agreement with Racine Water and Wastewater for 2015;
- Approved a proposal for recodification services submitted by Municode in the amount of $8,250;
- Approved the purchase of Quickbooks 2015 software;
- Set a Board of Review date of Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30-7:30 p.m.;
- Agreed with distributing the online park planning survey from April 1 to May 15.
The Village Board will meet for a regular meeting on Thursday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Hall (Lighthouse).
