At the regular Village Board meeting on July 9, the Board unanimously approved an agreement with Associated Appraisal to conduct a full revaluation of Village properties in 2016. The action was taken after discussion over the course of three meetings regarding the cost and challenges of the revaluation process. Board members decided the revaluation is ultimately needed to update the Village's assessments. The State recommends doing a revaluation every 10 years and the last time one was done in Wind Point was 1981. Much more information for homeowners about the revaluation will be provided in the coming months.

Johns Disposal offers bulk collections on the first Monday of each month (when Monday is a holiday it takes place the next day). 

Acceptable bulk items: extra garbage bags, extra recycling items (in clear plastic bags), furniture, carpeting (no wider than 4 ft. and rolled), large metal items, cardboard (flattened and empty), appliances, tires (2 per home - 8 per year), drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers), humidifiers, de-humidifiers, water softeners and air conditioners.

Unacceptable bulk items: yard waste, electronics, hazardous materials, liquid paint and loose bulk construction materials.

All items for bulk pick up should be placed within 2 feet of curbside and 6 feet from the garbage/recycling containers. For more information on Johns Disposal collections, click here. 

By Friends of the Wind Point Lighthouse

The next climb to the top of the Wind Point Lighthouse is scheduled for Sunday, August 2.  Please be sure to visit the Fog Horn Building Museum, the Gift Shop and the Memorial Garden on the shore of Lake Michigan on your tour.  It's a wonderful experience for you, your family and friends. 

The 144 steps in the spiral staircase to the top require sturdy shoes (no flip-flops or high heels) and a certain level of fitness.  Due to safety and liability concerns, children under six are not allowed to climb.  To register for the climb, go to the lighthouse web site www.windpointlighthouse.com.  To register for a tour on the hour, follow the directions on the "Tours" page.  For a tour on the half-hour, you can register on-site.  However, you may have to wait depending on the number of climbers ahead of you.  Cost is $5 for those 6 - 12 and $10 for ages 13 and older. 

We have new items in the Gift Shop (embroidered fleeces, t-shirts, caps, mugs and Jim Charnon's Collection of photos, cards and puzzles plus books and other souvenirs of your visit).  We also have a new exhibit of the anchor from the Alice and a new diorama of the Wind Point Lighthouse around 1910 developed by Jim Charnon and Jim Erven, members of Friends. We hope to see you on the 2nd.
