We provide the details for our Concert in the Park and a reminder that the registration deadline for the Scholarship Pageant is August 8.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office prepared a list of tips to help protect your property...many are simply common sense but it's a good reminder list.

If you want to keep up with the College of Lake County, we've provided a hot link for CLC news and events.

And finally, there's a discount coupon to one of the Village's food establishments.

As always, let me know what you think of this Newsletter.

Concert in the Park-

This year's Concert in the Park is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th at Wadsworth Park.  The concert is FREE with music provided by the Blooze Brothers Band.

The Savanna House will offer up a fabulous pig roast and beverages for purchase.

The concert will run from 6pm to 10pm.  Feel free to bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic basket if you wish.  It's a family event so bring your kids, too.
Scholarship Pageant-

The 2015 Wadsworth Area Scholarship Pageant will be held on Sunday, August 16, from 2pm to 5pm at Midlane Golf Resort.

This is a community service event encouraging self-growth through service.  Open to young women, the pageant will crown a Miss Wadsworth, a Junior Miss Wadsworth, and a Little Miss Wadsworth.

There is still plenty of time to register... the registration deadline is August 8.  Here's how you can do that:
  • Email director Angelique Marie at [email protected], or
  • Snail mail the application to Wadsworth Area Pageant, PO Box 308, Wadsworth, IL  60083
  • Click on this LINK which will take you to the pageant web site which provides all the details about this wonderful program and the application form

I have personally worked with contest winners from past years and can attest to the fact that the program helps develop young girls into wonderful women dedicated to contributing to their community.  Please consider getting your daughter involved... the application process is simple.

From our County Sheriff-

Anyone can be a victim of a crime anytime or anywhere.  Below are some prevention tips from Sheriff Mark Curran's Office.  Most of these tips are common sense but we reprint them in case there could be circumstances  where there is a lack of common sense.  Certainly this wouldn't apply to YOU, but perhaps someone you know!

Vehicle burglaries oftentimes are "crimes of opportunity."  Offenders target vehicles they believe are easy to access.  You can help
prevent them by following these suggestions:

* Always lock your vehicle
* Take your keys with you
* Never hide a spare key in or on your vehicle.
* Park in well-lit areas
* Hide or remove your valuables
* Never leave an unattended vehicle running

Home burglary prevention tips include:

*Always lock your residence
*Keep outside lights on; use motion sensor lights
*Make your home appear to be occupied
*If you are away use automatic timers on lights

*Don't allow mail or garbage to pile up
*Be aware of your surroundings
* If you see something unusual, call the police

Ruse burglaries are crimes in which the offender uses a "ruse" to distract the victim.  Victims are usually present in their homes when the crime occurs and these despicable criminals target seniors and people living alone.

These low-life punks generally work in pairs allowing one offender to create a distraction while the other steals things of value.

Some of their "story" lines include:

* Repairing unilock driveway/sidewalk pavers
* Blacktop, seal-coating, or driveway repair
* Inquiries about the homeowner's water supply
* Repairs to gutters and fences
* Tree trimming and landscaping

* False statements about other problems
* Questions about homeowner's property lines
* Inquiries about neighborhood homes for sale

Do not allow anyone in your home unless you know them personally or it is a scheduled appointment.  If you live near senior citizens, warn them.  If a solicitor comes to your residence, take notice of the vehicle they are driving (make, model, color, type) and their attire and physical characteristics.

If you do not choose to speak with a solicitor or utility worker, never leave your front door unlocked or unattended.  A legitimate utility or government worker will never object if you ask for identification.  You may verify with the utility company or local government agency if the individual was sent to your residence.

If you feel you were the victim of a ruse burglary or if you have seen suspicious vehicles and/or subjects approaching elderly neighbors, please call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 847-549-5200 to report these incidents, or call 911 if the incident is in progress.  Please be ready to provide the
offender's vehicle description and a license plate number.

It might be a good idea to share all this information with your children.
