CUNY LED GROUP PURCHASING 1 MW+
The City University of New York, PepsiCo, City and County of Albany, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation participated in NYSolar Smart SunShares, a NY-Sun group purchasing pilot program. Employees of these organizations, as well as their families and friends, were able to receive discounted pricing on solar through SunShares, which ran from September to December. The lowest price achieved through the program was $2.94 per watt in the Capital region, which is one of the lowest prices ever recorded among residential installations in New York State. The conversion rate of moving proposals to signed contracts was nearly 20 percent, as opposed to the average industry conversion rate of about five percent. A total of 491 sites  were assessed, resulting in 95 signed contracts to install a total solar capacity of 572.61 kW.

NYC DOB 'Pro Cert' Leads to Uptick

In the first two months of 2016, over 400 solar PTA Professional Certification or 'self service' applications were submitted to the NYC Department of Buildings. Sustainable CUNY advocated for Pro Cert as these jobs are automatically and immediately approved, freeing up staff and therefore reducing the timeline for full service solar applications.
NYSolar Smart is a strategic effort led by Sustainable CUNY of the City University of New York that supports Federal, State and NYC solar initiatives to strategically remove barriers to large scale solar deployment.
